Which one is more updated? (version wise, not date wise):
DriverVer=08/08/2011, 8.880.8.0000 (later date but apparently earlier version)
DriverVer=07/28/2011, 8.881.0.0000 (later version but earlier dated)?...

From the release notes:
Quote:
F1 2010 may randomly hang on application launch.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 may randomly hang after a period of game play.
Random flashing may be observed while playing F1 2010 and Dirt 2.
I think I'm going to skip these...

The BFBC2 hanging issue has been known for a while but it's good to see AMD actually acknowledging it this time.

It's been here since the 11.x series.

These are the same as the 11.8 preview 2 opengl driver minus the updated opengl.

Actually these are different, not just about the OpenGL

Like with previous drivers, even though the file has the same build date they are not the same code wise.

For example, the file atikmdag.sys (as well as many others) are different sizes and have many differences if you use fc to compare them between this one and the 8.880.8 driver.

In fact, the files that are different (NOT including the OpenGL files) are pretty much all slightly bigger with 11.8 WHQL than 11.8 preview.

How's this for an example, despite claiming to be the same version!

aticaldd64.dll
11.8 (8.880.8) from the latest preview:
8,724,480 bytes

11.8 (8.881) WHQL:
9,644,544 bytes

There's also around 900KB difference with aticaldd.dll, but like I said for the files that are different with 11.8 WHQL, they're bigger... (not considering the OpenGL files).

As with any driver release try them yourself in the games you play and see. Every system is different so no-one can say these are good bad for everyone.

Well some components of 11.8 WHQL are older, such as OpenGL, the graphics GEM, OpenCL etc, but it also appears some components may be more recent. There must be a reason for some of the key files in 11.8 WHQL to be larger, and for the driver version to be higher. Like I pointed out earlier, thats a pretty big file version discrepancy even though it has the same supposed build number!

I would just like to know why there are such big driver file size differences!

For me, well I thought stuff it and copied the Graphics DEM and OpenGL files from the 11.8 preview over the 11.8 WHQL, as well as the newer OpenCL etc from the preview, so am now running a mixed driver. Seems to be working well so far!
