Maybe, might need to run a repair of windows or something like that tho. You are always better off reformatting your windows drive.

Just saw this post, and know it's a couple weeks old. Just sharing my experience. I ran into this 3 months ago, for my son's computer. He has quite a few games that I really didn't want to reinstall, and copy over saved games/settings.

He was running Win7 64bit on a Gigabyte Intel P965 chipset and E6600 cpu. Took a chance and uninstalled all drivers for video, sound, chipset, etc.

Updated the MoBo to Biostar P55 and I5 -760 cpu. Started system up, and Win7 installed basic drivers, then I installed all the updated drivers for everything else. System has been running great not one problem at all. Guess I just got lucky, but sure saved a lot of time. I really wasn't looking forward to reinstalling over 200Gb of steam games, and not including the others!
