It was horrendous on pc, an absolute disgrace. But THQ has resumed in-house development of these games so you don't have to worry about a ****ty job this around. The first two games were fantastic on many levels, and I plugged a good 100 hours into the series.
I was maybe one of the three people in Canada to pre order the second one and I had this pre-ordered back in February for the Xbox, so i'd recommend it, but clearly my viewpoint may be considered "Skewered" .

Yeah but lets wait until PC reviews are released. I heard SR2 was an unplayable mess of a game.

Yup, especially when you're driving. The framerate is all over the place, regardless of PC spec. Glad I picked it up in the sale and didn't pay full price for it. Shame.

From what i gathered, they've got a completly new tech powering the backend of the game, and they are doing the "port" themselves... we should still cross fingers this time, though.

Funny how the driving looks like its faster than the jet!
This type of gameplay is great! but I think it works better as a option in the game, rather than the game itself. I think the charm will wear off when there isn't something set to do.

If you had an objective based game, you could then just muck around in this free roam mode for fun, I think that would be a winner

I agree, I hope just hope its optimised for PC... Just Cause 2 is my fav open world/sandbox game ever... not just the gameplay but the PC optimisation is incredible.
I pray SR3 is the same.
BTW if you buy Red Fraction Arma you get a key for the exclusive VIP SR3 demo.

Well as has been mentioned, this will be done in-house on the PC.
SR2 was, and still is a mess performance wise, but the port was outsourced, and Volition were just as unhappy with the result as we were.
Hoping this is alot better, as the game does look very good.

worth the price alone just for the moves you can do.
however im not sure if its the trailer or whatever but the framerate looks a bit $hite, i hope to the ruler of the heavens that they don't cap this to 30fps like the original, its the dumbest thing any developer could do to a pc game, 30fps is fine for most games (when properly optimized) whether its a port or not but developers should at least give an option (just like in GTA3 and Vice City) where a gamer can choose to enable a Frame Limiter or not depending on how the game plays on his rig.
Alice Madness was capped too but luckily a simple tweak took care of it.
anyway, i am certainly buying Saints Row 3.
edit: actually.... i'm fecking impressed and can't wait to get my hands on SR3

The 30fps cap was patched out pretty soon i think, well it wasn't there buy the time i bought it on Steam for £3.49 lol.
Not that it was easy to get more than 30fps out of it all the time anyway.
The second game was actually quite fun, and didn't take itself too serious like GTAIV did.

yes its true that it was patched but the game even at 60 still felt 30fps and kinda laggy at times, no idea why, maybe it was my pc or something, or maybe it was just the engine itself, cause otherwise it was a decent game that i enjoyed.

Nah, definetly not anyones PC, the game itself is all over the place, checked it again when i go the 2600k, and while alot better than before, still had lots of random framerate dips, while CPU and GPU usage wasn't even close to being maxed.
So pleased that its being done inhouse now, guessing Volition were getting sick of taking abuse for something that wasn't completely their fault.

Yawn. Seriously, nice engine & etc, but
A. Too cartoonish
B. Senseless demo gameplay, why would i want to beat up hordes of civilians and blast cars with my plane ? Nobody is fighting back at all, how lame is that?
Do that in GTA and you're surrounded by police in no time.

These games are like anti GTA, especially 4, which took itself far too seriously, and ended up not being much fun after a while.
I like both, and think both styles have a place.

seems a bit old school with the scenery not destructing. its also tasteless which is good but it lacks the style of tastelessness that GTA offered and just seems like teenage potty humor.
rather play something else tbh

Further DLC info, THQ is going to be a bit more aggressive with this sort of thing though it's not uncommon with support for DLC over a longer period of time like with say Oblivion, Fallout New Vegas or Mass Effect / Dragon Age as examples though this is a bit more albeit not quite like Sims 3 or certain MMO's.
http://www.shacknews.com/article/694...-a-year-of-dlc
Quote:
During an investor relations call, THQ chief executive Brian Farrell stated that the publisher is looking to increase post-launch revenues for its core titles by 20 percent.
Part of the plan, Farrell said, is to plan an aggressive campaign for post-launch content for its core titles. The first title slated to follow THQ's new digital direction is Saint's Row: The Third. "The idea is to really drive the key titles," Farrell noted.
When it launches, Saint's Row: The Third will include a Season Pass that will give players free access to a number of future downloadable content releases. The DLC plan is scheduled to then continue with content that will run for "nearly a year," additional microtransactions, and an in-game store.
Though it wouldn't break down specific numbers, THQ revealed that it has "doubled digital revenues this year versus last year." The strategy is geared to be attached to all of the company's core titles; however, Farrell notes that THQ will "take [its] foot off the gas for the titles that don't have as much traction" under the new model.

Had to laugh at this
Quote:
|
September 30th -- Today, THQ and Volition announced that the PC version of Saints Row: The Third is scheduled to release exactly when they said it would. Developed in-house at Volition in Champaign, IL and powered by Steam, Saints Row: The Third on PC is not scheduled to be delayed by any unforeseen development problems, shipping issues, inclement weather, or zombie apocalypse. As such, it remains on track for a November 15 release, exactly when we said it would.
