Default Help with wireless network - 05-09-2011, 10:26 | posts: 4

Anyone here has any knowledge about wireless networking. I need some info about some wireless setup that is to be setup in a residential area. The area to be covered is about 2 km.the residential units are bit geographically scattered so what will be required to setup a wireless network for the whole area. Will the below specs be enough

Routerboard RB600A MPC 8343E 3 GBIT LAN,4 MINIPCI,NAND Storage with Routers L4
Routerboard R52HN,MINIPCI 802.11 a/g/b/n radio (about 4 of them)
Routerboard 17DBI sector Antenna (about 4 of them)

a 2 km WiFi area? uhhhh ... I don't think that would quite work unless you use industrial grade WiFi equipment that is licensed to transmit at high power....

... why exactly do you need to set up such a huge WLAN?

My company is setting up WLan in residential area of the employees. Our plant is in a remote area so we are thinking of setting up a WLan for the residents living in the residential compounds. But as the buildings are geographically scattered we need that much range.Aren't the hardware specified fit enough to provide the net to that much area

You need industrial (better known in the networking industry as "carrier-grade") equipment ... it's outside the scope of this forum frankly ... but look at equipment from Cisco or Juniper for your needs.
