Default linksys 4 port router help - 07-30-2002, 02:23 | posts: n/a

hey i just got a linksys 4 port cable/dsl router. I have my cable modem hooked to the router, and then two network cords going to each computer, i want to network 2 computers for gaming. My main computers net works, (all the lights are lit up on the router). but the cord that is going to my 2nd computer doesnt have anything lit up. i've tried following some troubleshooters but i've not ever done this before so its a bit wierd. anyone can help me?

Its a hardware issue:

1. The port on the router is dead. Try another port.
2. The cable is bad. Try swapping the cable.
3. Your NIC is dead / disabled. See if you NIC is working / installed correctly by looking in your OS to see if its disabled or the drivers are improper.
Swap out the NIC to another PCi/ISA slot. Try the NIC from the working machine in the machine that doesnt work.

well it doesnt make sense, the grey cable that i have going from the router to my 2nd computer is a crossover cable and doesnt work, but when i hook my 2nd computer straight to the cable modem it works, can that be where it works with the cable modem but not the router?
guess i'll probably go buy a normal cat5 ethernet cord
