Default Unlock 6850 to 6870?? - 12-27-2010, 08:59 | posts: 36 | Location: South Africa

Is it possible to unlock/flash a 6850 to a 6870?

I've seen allot of people are able to unlock a 6950 to a 6970. Just wondered if it was possible for the 6850 as well.

Thanks!

Possible to flash, yes. Unlock, no. You do get benefits to upgrading the BIOS from a 6870, but you won't unlock the shaders as they're locked at ASIC level.

Interestingly, the 6850 with some shaders locked, overclocks better than 6870, which in the end makes it faster than 6870
