Default Macbook problem - 08-18-2010, 22:09 | posts: 1,391 | Location: Chicago

Hey guys, I just got internet at my new place today, and I have my linksys 5 port switch connected to the modem and everything connected from the linksys. My PC is plugged into the linksys and it works fine. My macbook will detect an ehternet connection, but will not actually connect to anything. I've been searching online but only found others with my problem and no solutions that work. It's definitely the macbook. Cables and everything work fine to other machines. Any ideas?

Hi Rampus01,
how are you?

first things first: do you have a GREEN DOT when plugged?

well it could be only 2 things:

1st, maybe this is your case you got a FIX IP configuration:

You need to set it DHCP !!!

2nd, Have you tried turn off the WiFi? If so, there is this internet Wizzzard that could help your MAC to know the internet way, maybe is ONLY configured to use WiFi.

regards,
eriku

Do you have a switch or a router? a switch would require more than one ip address to be assigned from your isp for each separate computer. how many computers are hooked up? it is possible the isp allowed a couple but would want some money for any more.

I know at my dads years ago roadrunner used to charge 10.00/mo for additional ips when he had a switch.
