Would a wireless network work? -

I want to have a network with my friend, and he lives two doors away, it's less than 20m i would think. However i am wondering whether it would be plausible to have a wireless network with him? I'm not after amazing speeds, anything around 2Mbits or more. Also i dont have a vast budget either, anything under £100 ($150) would be great for the whole lot. Would it be possible?
I haven't got a network set up at the moment, but i know how to do it all.
I dont want any of the specifics, like manufacturer, just what i need.
Sorry about the noobness of this.

Yeah thats possible, they have ones with 800 feet of distance for under 100$ Or if you talking around 150$ there are ones with 11mbps and up to 1,800 feet distance

Would it be possible to have the network running with just a USB wireless network adapter at both computers? I'm trying to keep costs down to a minimum. If i just had a USB adaptor at both computers, would i just be able to plug in a away it goes (with a little bit of setup obviously), or would i need to have a network already configured between the two comps via cabling?

you should be able to set up the network without cables but maybe not at your first attempt.

Don't get D-Link!!!
I have a d-link wireless card and router that supposedly works at 328 feet, but it doesn't work past 30! Good luck trying to have two computers in different rooms hooked up let alone different houses.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'm now gonna start to have a serious look at prices and manufacturers. At the moment i've found a USB Wireless adaptor for £62 ($93), can't remember the make at the moment, but does this sound like it could be worthwhile?
