Default HW Profile: Reset clocks to default - 04-03-2010, 23:28 | posts: 7 | Location: São Paulo, Brazil

Is it possible to create a hardware profile that resets the clocks to the factory defaults?

Right now, I have two options:

1) Not including clocks in the profile. That doesn't work right if I, e.g. try to apply it after doing some overclocking (board will stay OC'ed).
2) Setting the clocks manually to the default frequency. That disables Powerplay, which is not what I want. In short, I want a profile that changes fan behavior, but keeps stock clocks.

Is it possible as of now? Manually clicking the 'Reset clocks' button is the only workaround I found, and it's quite annoying.

EDIT: I noticed I might have posted in the wrong area, since I'm using the beta version. If positive, could a mod. please move it to the proper forum? Thanks.

You should be able to create 2 profiles, one for stoack, and one for overclock.

You can then chose to have the board run the overclock profile whenever a 3d app is launched, and revert to your 'stock' profile when back in 2d mode.

As I said, a profile with clocks manually tuned to match stock is not the same as the 'Set Default Clocks' button: it disables Powerplay, and I don't want that (I can't turn off my card's fan when idling without it)

ATT has no option to make profile with default clocks. But you can set default clocks in game profiles. If you don't want to lost PowerPlay, why do you use overclocking in ATT?

I don't overclock when I'm not gaming. As I mentioned, turning off the fan helps keeping my PC as silent as possible, but for that I need low idle temps.

Anyway, using game profiles seems like the best idea: shame on me for not remembering it. But I still think I'd be nice to have default-clock profiles: this would enable auto-overclocking for 3D apps and full power savings: don't see why we have to choose one over the other.

EDIT: I think I have found a solution for the problem: running atitray.exe with the /RSTCLK switch when a 3D app. finishes. Unfortunately, it seems to cause a hard crash on my machine: no BSOD or display corruption, but screen is stuck and computer has to be manually reseted.

Running it manually (through cmd.exe) has the same effect, and turning off overclocking beforehand changes nothing.

Can anyone reproduce the issue? I'm running ATT 1.6.9.1472 in Windows 7 x64 RTM (PC specs are on the forum profile right next to this post).

Okay. I will think about adding an option to Auto 2d/3d to select default clocks.
