I have my MSI 4870 set at core 788 and memory 995 and afterburner will not allow me to raise settings any higher. If I try to it goes back to these settings. What do I need to do to be able to raise my settings further. the overclocking within Catalyst control center is disabled.

If anyone was wondering how to do this, open the cfg file in the installation folder and change the enable unofficial overclocking value to 1. Restart Afterburner and you're good to go

I tried this with my Sapphire HD 5850 and my whole computer crashed when I tried to watch a BDRip. Screen flashed once when I pressed apply. Annoying if the card has all the potential and I can't easily (read: without a bios flash) overclock it
