MSI AfterBurner Overclocking Competition
In collaboration with MSI, Guru3D is organizing an AfterBurner Overclocking competition.
You enter the contest by posting the results in this forum thread.
This competition is an overclock competition which runs from Nov 18th towards December the 18th. Your mission ?
To overclock your MSI graphics card with MSI AfterBurner. You only need to overclock the core clock frequency (read the rules on the contest homepage). The overclockers with the best results (% of overclock) could be eligible for one of these fantastic prices:- First place - MSI Radeon HD 5870 (R5870-PM2D1G)
- Second place: Big Bang Fuzion P55 motherboard
- Third prize: MSI N275GTX Lightning graphics card
- Three runner-ups : MSI N9600 GT Diamond graphics card
The beauty of this contest is that even a low-end graphics card could win. In fact .. here's a hint. Low end graphics card often yield better when it comes to relative overclocks. What do you need to do. Well simple, we want top see you best overclock on your MSI graphics card -- We allow MSI N000/N200/R40000/R5000 series graphics cards.
Grab Afterburner and seek your maximum overclock. Some rules do apply, we need proof in the form of screenshots that entails:- AfterBurner for overclocking the card
- We need to see CPU-Z 1.52 in that screenshot
- You need to run Furmark for at least 600 seconds and show us that in the screenshot
We'll also need a photo:- We need to see a photo of your PC showing the MSI card.
You join up at the Guru3D.com forums and can enter your submissions here. All rules (please read the following pages carefully) and a proper explanation on this contest can be found here.
You can submit your results here in this thread. Please read the rules and requirements very carefully. Downloads:How to upload screenshots -- Click on 'Post Reply' (not quick reply) in this according competition thread. Below the text field you'll notice a sections called 'Attach files'. Click on the Manage Attachments button and here you can upload your screenshot -- after which it will be automatically thumbnailed and insert in your post.
You have 5MB of space for your two attachements (screenshot + photo).
Again please carefully through what screenshots and info we require at the contest landing pages.
Update:
The unlocked afterburner edition can be downloaded here, if your clock is limited by the standard afterburner.

So here's an example of how you should submit your results.
The first screenshot shows:- CPU-Z with the GPU and device ID.
- FurMArk running for more than 600 seconds
- AfterBurner Overclock
The second photo is proof of hardware, show a photo ogf you MSI card.
BTW - If in a later stage your results are even better, feel free the edit your original post with the new overclock results.
See below the attachements.

i am having alot of fun learning how gpu based overclocking works these days. i'm totally going to enjoy this competition. if i dont win, at least i fixed my gpu's stock clock heat problem 100c under load down to 75c. i dont understand why MSI had my voltage so high.

WELL HERE IS MY NEW RECORD WOOT
700/1400/865 1200mV = 16.27%
edit: if i remember correctly the gtx280 can hit about 115c before it shuts off. i'll push that for the sake of this. side case cover off and desk fan on low LOL
EDIT: i underclocked my cpu for the sake of less possible ambient heat, which explains the fps in this one being not much better. that and my memory clock on the gpu i lowered too (its unneeded)
EDIT EDIT: the temp isnt hurting the card at all. i see it as almost irrelevant. the thing effecting my setup is the stability point of volts and clockspeed. although a little bit of google shows people overclocking to crazy amounts on air alone. maybe a little bit of work on my card is in order, reseating and some tightening of screws.

My OC - only air now -
11-19-2009, 09:35
here´s my first entry with GTX260...on air for now
if I calculate right it´s 37,5%
more voltage doesn´t make good for this card...need more cold
btw: sorry for a crappy rig foto, my camera is broken

so here´s my update on air with the same card as first...was a little colder and I improoved that for a better result
used 1,274V vGPU and it looks like that these frequency is max on air for this card
828/1656/1000MHz
(828-576)/576=43,75%

Here is my current overclock with the MSI 280 pushed to 740. The problem is it won't go any higher even if I push the voltage to the max.

This is the highest Ive gotten it so far with stock voltage.
If my calculations are correct its at (806-600)/600 = 34.3%
im quite surprised how well this card overclocks only using software, and how low the temps are on air!
