Unhappy Problem With NVIDIA Scaling On Windows 7 - 08-09-2009, 04:14 | posts: 6

Ok so I'm having problems getting NVIDIA scaling to work in W7.

My LCD's native resolution is 1680 x 1050, but I want to run Quake Live (and other games) @ 1280 x 720 (720p) so when I record demos for YouTube HD, the raw video will already be in 720p.

When I try and select "Use NVIDIA scaling with fixed-aspect ratio" and click apply, it doesn't stick. It reverts back to "Use my display's built in scaling" therefore making games look distorted when in fullscreen.

Is there anyway to get scaling to work?

EDIT: I probably should mention that I've had this problem with the 185.85 WHQL, 190.38 WHQL, and 190.56 Beta drivers.

Yeah it is a pain, scaling has been broken for quite a few of the recent driver versions. My LG 245WP by default has a strange image that is shifted to the left.

I think it is because Windows Vista and 7 detect the DVI to HDMI and the drivers think that it is a TV rather than monitor.

The other strange issue I've had since 182.50 is that the ports have swapped around. So port 1 which was primary is now showing up as a secondary monitor or TFT 2 rather than #1 that is used to be. I'm yet to find an explanation as to why it is doing that.

I dont believe its an hdmi issue. I had a 40inch toshiba, connected via dvi->Hdmi adapter, and manual scaling wasnt available. I recently switched to a 23inch acer, hooked up via dvi, and manual scaling still wasnt available.

Yeah, scaling works fine when I set the desktop to 720p and then run a game. It still is a bit of a hassle though having to manually switch the resolution everytime just so scaling will apply...

This is a stupid bug.

This happens to me as well.

To stop it, lower resolution.

I'm having a similar issue with my 42" TV and GTX 260 using HDMI, it thinks my screen is larger than it is and maps the pixels horribly causing distortion on desktop.

its your tv thats the problem, its got an incorrect edid installed. you'll need to override detection of EDID/DCC and create a custom inf.

Have you tried using hooking it up via vga/analogue?

this does not occur on all monitors. It seems it does occurt on 1080 P monitors while 24 in monitors with 1920-1200 resolution have no issue

This bug annoys me to death. The only fix workaround that I've found is using driver 181.22. I only really use scaling for 1 game. Warcraft 3:TFT doesn't naturally support widescreen, so I use the 4:3 equivalent of my 1440x900 resolution. Anyone know of a more recent driver that allows nvidia scaling?

Installed 7 RTM a few days ago and encountered a similar problem unable to turn scaling off.

I've found a workaround:

Check the radial box hit apply, then when the "Are you sure you would like to keep these settings? Reverting in.." dialog appears, open up task manager and end the nvcplui.exe before the timer ends. Doing so sucesfully turned scaling off

Win 7 detects edid info from monitor, and will not allow changing resolutions/refresh rate to "unsupported" resolutions. Ive had a helluva time getting my monitor to do 100hz because of unsupported.

I had to remove 2 pins in the dvi to interfere with edid reporting, than manually edit monitor drivers and properly "decorate" them. (x64 issue I believe)

I have had the bug for quite some time with Windows 7, when I change the scaling option it will revert to "Use my display's built in scaling" but when I close the Control Panel and open up a game I will find that it is scaling the way I want it to regardless of what the Control Panel says.

So try changing the option, click yes in the dialog, ignore what it says when it is done, don't click or change anything, close it, and run a game and see if it works for you, this may only work when setting "Do not scale" as that is the setting I use, but it works for me every time.

got the same problem with my H213H. tried on my 3 computers and the problem stayed: unable to select a different scaling mode. But then I have this idea, I have and old but quite useful 19" LCD, my Hanns monitor lol, started the PC plugged the 19" and then I was able to choose 'Fixed Aspect Ratio' which is the scaling mode I like, then unplugged the 19" and plugged back my 21.5", presto!!! 'Fixed Aspect Ratio' maintained, god! love my LCD a little bit more now, 'cuz the 19" has much better black levels (imagine that, 700 against 1000, H213H contrast level sux!).

That's it, borrow a small LCD if you don't have 1 to do that. it really works. no need to edit that edidiodo information. lol.

forgot to say: works on XP and 7 64-bit.

Sorry for reviving this old thread. But is anyone still experiencing this problem in the 195.55 driver? I can't seem to get it to work. It seems to work sometimes on the latest official driver though.
