Default Can't capture screenshots in games in vista - 11-29-2008, 05:01 | posts: 124 | Location: ontario canada

Hi there, I've been using tray tools for a long time under xp and it's worked great. However after switching to vista ultimate 32 bit recently I can no longer capture screenshots in any games, they all just show up as a black screen. This is basically all I've been using ATT for, I use Rivatuner for my fan, but I've found tray tools to be the best screenshot capture tool out there. Is there a version I should try to get full function under Vista? In addition to the HD3870X2 in my signature I also have an HD2400 pro for extra monitor support.

I've been having the problem with tomb raider underworld, left 4 dead, dead space, and far cry 2 but I can take screens of my desktop or 2d apps. I had no problems with the same hardware under Windows XP. I was thinking maybe it was capturing from the wrong display adapter, since I have 3 gpus on 2 separate cards, HD3870X2 and HD2400pro. Is there a way to select the specific adapter you want to capture from or does it automatically capture your primary display? Thanks for taking the time to look into this Ray.

From primary.
Why you need 2400 with 3870x2?

Hi Ray, I have the 2400 in my second pci-express slot so I can hook another monitor up to it. I uninstalled ATT and reinstalled the newer version but I still get the same results. If I use the in-game screenshot key, for instance in left 4 dead, it works fine, so I don't think there's a system problem. Something just isn't compatible with ATT for some reason. Do you have a specific version you would recommend I use? Also, are there any logs or files I can send you to help explore this issue? Thanks again.

ATITT is not the best screen capture software. Check out FRAPS. http://www.fraps.com/

I don't have other version than current beta. If you can see FPS from ATT, ATT wil be able to capture your screen. But if you disabled OSD for game , ATT will try to capture screen using other method and may be that method will not work in some cases

Maybe its related to your problem, but if i take screenshots using ATT, the whole game crashes. Even after i've reinstalled vista (x64) with the latest drivers.

The videocard i'm using is a Sapphire 4870x2.
Games i've tried it on: Spellborn, GTA4.

I'm not asking for a solution as i can use fraps for screenies, but maybe it's related to x2 graphics cards or something.
