Default Can't get WinXP to stop finding "new hardware"? - 09-30-2008, 05:27 | posts: 138 | Location: USA

After a recent clean install of XP Pro, I'm having an impossible time of installing drivers for my ATI X800XT PE. I've tried Catalyst, Omega (which used to work) and even (UGghh) Windows Update. I can get the drivers to install and I show a primary and "secondary" ATI X800XT under Hardware Manager (with whatever driver I've tried appended to the listing). But, no matter what I do, restarting the computer results in it finding ANOTHER Display adapter...shown with a big yellow question mark as an "unknown device". Going to "details", "Hardware ID's" shows it as "DISPLAY\NT ativrv01". If I try installing the same drivers to this device...I eventually get the BSoD.

This isn't my first clean install of XP (not my first rodeo!), but it has been awhile and I don't ever recall this problem? Whenever I install whatever driver I'm trying, I expected it to install, automatically, on restart...instead I get the usual "Found New Hardware" message. And, yes, I've tried every option, thinking I needed to let XP finish the install, NOT letting XP touch it (Cancel) and just about every option or sequence in between.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

Vic

Windows is looking for the WDM driver, ATI WDM Integrated Driver .

The WDM driver is a series of drivers used to enable the capture and TV tuner features on VIVO boards, and the All-In-Wonder™ series of cards produced by Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
