Default Moniter Suggestions Needed.. - 07-27-2007, 18:17 | posts: 980 | Location: Lansing, MI

I am currently using a Viewsonic 19' inch CRT moniter and I am in need of a new Moniter.
The relatively small screen size is really growing on me.

I am looking for a LCD Moniter with:
-Fast Response Time for gaming
-Large Screen 22'+
-Moniter that looks sharp at multiple resoulutions
-Cost between $300-$650
-Also a moniter that works has a HDTV screen would be a plus (for hooking up a 360 or PS3 without the image stretching).

I am a gamer and I want a LCD monitor that will look good even at non-native resolutions, I want a moniter that looks great when in 1680x1050, and when in other rez like 1440X900.

James.

LCD monitors always look dodgy at anything other than native res.

When you say 22"+ do you mean including 22" or only bigger than 22"?

For a 22", everyone will recommend:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001096

For 24" maybe a dell ultrasharp 24" or this one that I am getting:

I mean atleast 22' and bigger is fine.
So, there is no LCD moniter that looks great in non-native res.?

This sort of came up somewhere else, but I can't find the thread atm.

But basically, an lcd can, in actuality, only display one resolution, it's native resolution. If you use a lower resolution, the lcd kind of 'fills in the gaps', making educated guesses as to what color a pixel should be, based on the neighboring pixels. In theory it's not too bad, and you might not notice it if you just use it for browsing and desktop stuff, but in games, you will see a reduced image quality.

Wow, I currently use about 3 rez equally with my games.
Would getting a very nice 720p LCD TV be a good idea?

That depends. The picture quality would be less than a conventional PC monitor, because 720p spread over a large area (26"+ for an LCD hdtv) gives far less pixels per inch than say, 1680x1050 spread over a 22" monitor.

Also, I find that sitting very close to my hdtv is more taxing on the eye than sitting the same distance away from a monitor. I don't really no why, it may be due to the size.

I have decided on getting a 22' LCD moniter, so the SAMSUNG 226BW would be the best bet for what I am looking for?

EDIT: After reading abit more about the 226BW, it seems the best panel is the S and it's very hard to find. Where getting the C and A panel is much more likely, which are worse than the highly rated S panel.

Any Suggestion's on where to shop for the S Panel or is their a other moniter that would be a better pick over the 226BW?

THe Samsung 226BW would be the best bet for a 22" for sure, I have one and its the "A" panel which is supposed to suck. But trust me, it looks immense. For a guarenteed S panel you might want to look for the Samsung 226CW which is coming out very soon. Aparently they are all S panel.
