NF4 Ultra-D question... -

was wondering if i would see any impact (generally running in 2d mode as i do not game much if at all these days) by placing my video card in the secondary pci-e x16 slot, which i understand operates at 2x in single graphics mode. the reason i ask, is because i suspect the chipset cooler will be noisy, being blocked a good deal by the cooling of the vga, and i would like to connect it to my liquid loop. i am interested in adding a secondary (or new primary hdcp compatible) vga card in the future, but not for gaming, so no sli-mod for this board. the secondary (which will be in the first pci-e slot) will be a low profile card, so that shouldn't be a problem.
thanks for looking.. i can't wait till the correct cpu comes (should be friday) so i can put my new rig together..

If your not going to be gameing, then you shouldn't have a problem with that setup... Would have been nice if the second pci-e slot was also 16x. I would love to add my SB into the watercool loop, but the 7950 i run will not function in sli mode while in the second slot...

cool.. then i will install it that way, and see how things go. of course the intial run and setup will be done with stock coolers in place, which will allow me to see how hot the gpu runs (since it is passively cooled already) and leak test my liquid loop after cutting some holes in my case for the tubes to pass and changing around the tubing. it'd be nice if the gpu doesn't get too hot, so i don't have to add it to the loop as well, so that most of the cooling is reserved for the chipset and cpu for some minor overclocking adventures.

hmm you have the dfi lanparty ultra-d ?
if you do try doing the sli mod than set the jumpers to sli adn than put the card into the second slot. that slot will than have 8x bandwidth, which shouldnt be a problem at all. and it works like that for sure cuz i tried it with my setup as well. but the comp wont boot if you will have set to sli and the card in the primary slot (it must be in the secondary slot)

cool, didn't know that... would there be a performance decrease from running on a 16x slot to only 8x?

think it isnt. its even of really minor importance for high end sli parts.

sorry, i didn't read enough about it, it just has been made harder as you must remove epoxy from the chipset to connect the two contact points. more info in the 33 pages here
