X-fi CONSTANT static -

Let's see.. so ive had this card for about 3 months now.. and recently it randomly started making a static sound for intermittant periods of time. today i turn on my ccomputer.. and as soon as windows loads.. the static is there.. but it took a second or 2 to.. wind up if you will. Upon switching modes, The static never changed. In creation mode though.. i could hear what sounded like radio interference.. (am) the wheeeeellll ahhh wooooshhh kinda sound. *SORRY!* I've been reading up on the subject.. and now i wish i never bought this thing. CL doesn't wanna seem to fix it.. and I can't find a solution to get it to stop. I can't listen to music.. play games.. or even turn my speakers volume up without the sound being louder than talking volume. If anyone has any ideas.. i'd appreciate it.
*i've upgraded every driver and bios possible.. rolled back to some.. swapped out HD's and everything. I've switched spread spectrum on and off.. and i've tried to find pci latency in my DFI's bios.. but to no avail*

theres been over 250 pages of complaints on there forums about the same issue they admitted it and they "say" there working on possible solutions. Thats actually the second thread made by an admin there.. the orginal was over 250 pages long a they have some petition going around there with over 2000 signatures already for RMA beyond warranty period. I have the same issue with xi fi.. didnt have it at first interestingly enough.. well if read the thread u would understand theres alot of suggestions for fixes in that thread some have worked for some people for some they havent check it out

Welcome to the My X-Fi Has Issues club. We'll PM you the password and secret handshake later...
Before going thru the hassle of RMAing the card, try muting the inputs in the advanced sound settings menu. I found that the Aux input on mine was the source of constant static, and as soon as I muted it, that static went away (though my other crackling persisted, but I digress)
Open the Play Control menu (sounds and audio devices), go to the Options drop down menu, and select Properties. Click on "Recording", then put a check next to all the inputs and click OK. You should now see the "Recording Control" volume levels with a bunch of sliders, - start muting them. Assuming you are doing this when hearing the static, you should hear it stop as soon as you've muted the source of the problem.
This may not work for you, but it's worth spending a minute or so to try it.

I had static for a little bit on mine while playing BF2. Had EAX effects at 12db. I left it there. I put a fan blowing some air across the X-fi though. Guess what? No more static.

YOu had a heat issue? is that maybe why they put the heat sinks on the X-fi's? - The amps get noisy when they get hot..Glad you got it worked out. BTE @Spezzy, some mobos after you hit DEL and your in the Bios page you hit CTRL and F1 and it'll give you the Advanced options. Hope that helps. if your issue comes back let us know.
