Default Performance difference b/w 7900gt and 6800gt @quadro 4400 - 06-07-2006, 06:54 | posts: 2

Hi,

Can someone please shed some light on the difference between a GeForce
7900 GT and a modded 6800GT (to a quadro 4400 I think) in terms of the
performance implications for 3D app work like Maya?

I have purchased an XFX 7900 GT only to discover that I cannot mod it
to a quadro as per Unwinder. 6800 GT are hard to come by around here
(Melbourne, Australia) anymore and I'm wondering if the 7900 will be
sufficient for my needs (Maya work, but not in a professional capacity)
or should I return the card and try and get a 6800 and mod it since the
performance difference will be significant?

The card will not be used for games (well, mostly).

TIA,

Bonny

Stick to that 7900. If you aint a pro graphic artist, then you wont need it, and still pros sometimes run on old systems.

use the money for a renderfarm if you render a lot.

Thanks for the reply. I suppose I'll stick with the card I've got.
However, could you refer me to a comparison between the two
card types I mentioned in some Maya or other DirectX/OpenDL shootout ?

TIA

Bonny
