I had the same problem, all I did was opened IE then clicked the Maximize button, then closed it again using the FILE / CLOSE option.. Next time I opened IE it was once again in Max mode.

This only works with 1 IE window though, and any extras are still in the small annoying window. Which I have not been able to fix.

^^ have not tried that did it work ?

You mean one first launch right ?.

Start by right clicking the IE icon in quick launch (not the desktop) go under the properties and use Run: on maximized

Then open IE and maximize it then holde down Shift (and Ctrl just for good measurement...lol i can't remember but it wont hurt) and close IE (with Shift and Ctrl pressed down).

Open IE, when the window is all small.

Resize it to your screen size (Don't maximize it yet)

Then when it's resized, close it, re open, it should be at the new size, then maximize it, and quit and reopen again.

See how that go's.

Otherwise you may want to reset IE to defaults to see if that helps.

Well that one is worse and i have IE7 installed so im not sure it works the same way. Anyway all that things i have tried including Finchwizard's fix have not worked for me using right click and open in new window (have not tried a link) so i can't really help.

There is what Finchwizard suggested then there is closing the first window before re-sizing the small one and then closing it with Shift down. Then there is using Alt+F4 for closing or double clicking the left side icon for closing.

Mmm i just noticed something.

The new IE window followers the desktop windows placement "style" (default cascade).

i.e. if you open 2 IE and then right click the taskbar and select "Tile windows vertically" next time the new window link will open as a vertically tile window. You can use "undo" by right click the taskbar as well.

Ok this it works for me.

Open IE. Use Restore to make the window sizeable (the first window don't open a new window) Now drag the window edges to adjust the size. Close using Shift.
