It's pretty easy to do, the best solution but also the most expensive would be to get a modem/router from a either netgear or linksys ect... connect both machines to the router using straight through cat5 cables "or you could use a wireless alternative", then connect the printer/scanner to either one of the two machines and share the printer, job done.

The cheaper method is to connect the two machines together using a cat5 crossover cable, one of the machines will be connected to the internet and that connection will be shared, the printer/scanner will be connected the same as above...

First things first, you need a Router if your on broadband.

There are a lot of good ones, something by Netgear is fine.

Now it depends if you want to have them linked via wireless, which is slower, not as reliable, but it's convienent.

If you want Wireless, you'll want to get a Broadband Router with either 802.11b or 802.11g built into it, also make sure it has a 4 port switch built into it.

If you don't doesn't matter, don't get one with Wireless, but it's a handy thing to have if you can afford it.

Righteo, if you decide to go Wireless, you will need a 802.11g Netgear PCI Card, which you will install into 1 of your PC's, Obviously the one furtherest away. Install the drivers etc, making SURE YOU READ THE MANUAL.

Each Wireless stuff has specific steps to do, some won't work if you do it out of order.

IF your not using wireless, then you just need 2 Cat5e cables, to whatever length you want.

Connect em all up and together and then continue with the Sticky. It has all the good settings to use.

If your going Wireless, you need to make a 128bit WEP HEX key, Google about it, just make sure you set it otherwise people can get into your stuff, which you don't want, even if you don't think you have anything to hide, Assign a WEP key regardless.

Set that in your Router and your PCI wireless card along with the IP address's etc in the Sticky.

That's about it really.

What to do with it...ummmmmmm sell it, smash it, do whatever really.

You could setup ICS if you don't want to buy a Router, although I recommend a Router any day of the week due to it's hardware Firewall.

This is broadband before I go to further?

You want this.....

Internet ====> (Phone Line) Router ====> (Straight Through Cable) ===> Computer 1

Computer 2 will also connect to the Router via a Straight through cable.
