Testing these out now as well, I'll see if I get some more speed increases, man I miss broadband.

EDIT: Well, it gave some increase, but I've noticed some pages will just stop loading when I am also loading some othe ones, like in this picture, any ideas?

Oh, make sure you restart Firefox if you haven't guessed as well, probably should of added that.

People saying about the whole loading images, this should help them out a bit.

It could increase the RAM usage as well, but it's a small price to pay for it to load pages quicker.

Well, it seems to be ok now. Still looks as if it's finished loading, like in the picture, but I just left it and it continued. Pages are loading quite a bit quicker as well, thanks for the tweaks.

What OS are you on?

Also is it just......

about:config

?
Just remember that this is increasing connections to the server for more requests, while most web servers shouldn't give the slightest hoot, some may chuck a wobbly for the increased connections, but I seriously doubt many servers will complain that much.

Also, not sure about the pages stop loading....could be something else fishy going on there, this is just increasing connections, nothing else, if it's still causing problems, try disabling that browser.turbo.enabled tweak off and try again.

Cheers for the tweaks Finch.

Damn forum reformats the about config with a space. Of all the silly things.

Here's what you need to enter:

PHP Code:
about:config

Well, Finchwizard, I finally switched to Firefox . The only reason I hadn't before is because of pages not viewing properly in the earlier versions. It looks like they got that pretty much fixed, but I'm still having a major slowdown issue (like I did before) when Macromedia content is used on pages. Have they (or you) found a fix for that problem?

Other than that, works great! Those tweaks helped out a smooch too.

Thanks!

Can you give me a few links with Multimedia stuff your having problems with? I just don't have a problem with it, maybe I could find out the specific problem.

Cheers.

I was told that pipelining can actually SLOW down speed since only a few servers actually utilise this service.

http://www.gamespot.com is the biggest one. Near the bottom of the page by the game rankings, and the "community" rating bar if you click on a game that's already been released.

Of course it could just be one of those oddities...either way I can live with it.

Good stuff Finchwizard maybe you can make it a "Firefox Tweaks Sticky" instead of a poll.?

Ok first some basic stuff.

Editing Configuration Files.

Tips & Tricks

Using about:config

About Protocol Links

Documented Preferences.(reference big)

Mozillazine firefox tuning post, good stuff.
Firefox Tuning.

Another tweak to give a try. Disabling IPv6.

Disabling IPv6 in Firefox.
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=243929

Open Firefox..type about:config
look for :Network.dns.disableIPv6
Double click to toggle it to 'true' and then restart Firefox.

Tweak Network extension. ( instead of manual config change )

Tests.

Stopwatch.

SmokeTests. (long boring test no fun and not speed related)

Oh just one thing the "browser.turbo.enabled" preference, to my knowledge is not in use post FF 1.0 and has been removed (from the config) in the Trunk. Just a heads up.

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o.../latest-trunk/

About (browser.turbo.enabled)
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=981934

No effect at all. The pref is a leftover from earlier times and there is currently no code that acts upon it. It wasn't taken out before Firefox 1.0 but has already been removed from the trunk and will be gone for the next version of Fx.

Just a note on the "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests".

Apparently "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" has a hard upper limit on the number of requests that can be pipelined as far as i can tell it's 8 or 10. Oh and "network.http.pipelining" default is false.

From the "Firefox Tuning" mozillazine thread.

Quote:

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

* Description: maximum number of consecutive requests in one pipeline.
* Type: integer
* Limit: 8
* Default: 4
* Additional Info: nsHTTP.h. (<< hyper link) Optimal value depends on connection bandwidth/latency.
* Recommendation: 8. While it doesn't hurt to set it to 100 like in other tweak examples, it will have no effect whatsoever because of the mentioned limit.

network.http.pipelining

* Description: enable pipelining for non-proxy connections.
* Type: boolean
* Default: false
* Additional Info: might still lead to problems with servers that don't support pipelining correctly and that are not on the internal blacklist.
* Recommendation: true

Additional Info: nsHTTP.h.
http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/sou...rc/nsHttp.h#96

HTTP/1.1 Pipelining FAQ (Makes it sound somewhat untested and not fully implemented server side.)

Sorry I haven't answered earlier, just been flat out at work.
Ummmm yeah.

I noticed some problems with turbo mode, not always, but sometimes it's seemed weird, so if anyones having problems with it on, try turning it off again.

Also, to dark_surge, when you mean the slow stuff with Flash, you mean scrolling? Because with the scroll wheel, it looks terrible, but if you drag the scroll bar, works fine.

The background is static content and could very possibly be that CSS quirk in the Gecko Engine, I'm sure it's being worked on, anyone else know?

Yeah, while scrolling. Like you said, it looks better if it's drug down instead, but I can still notice the slowdown. It's no biggie, but I'm interested in knowing why it does that.

Your welcome . It is pretty hard to find any good extensive documentation on many of the "hidden stuff" in Mozilla/FF. Thats why i was thinking it might be cool to have a thread here where people can share stuff.

Just to clear it up "browser.turbo.enabled" to my understanding is code leftover. It is still in the FF 1.0 Branch config but has no code that acts upon it, only older (pre FF 1.0) versions of FF has this working code. The FF Trunk has had it removed from the config but the FF branch still has it, as a leftover.

Also i think there are some bugs related to this and it may/can conflicte with multiple profiles. Not to sure if it's the same as the -turbo command line.

Try using /prefetch:1 in command line.
