Default Doom 3 on a Voodoo 2 - 11-15-2004, 19:50 | posts: 369

Dunno if this has been mentioned before but Blues News has a story that someone has made a patch to make 12mb Voodoo 2 cards run Doom 3

Screenshots:

http://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1462

and the patches:

http://www.voodoo.zarovka.com/

I still have two Orchid Righteous Voodoo 2 cards, might just try this when I can be arsed to rip me box to bits :/

Someone tell me this a joke and save me the trouble!

The link doesn't work for me.
Dunno if it works, but even if it did, i believe it would be painfully slow.

The screenshots link was working when I posted it and now it's not The screenshots looked Ok (for a voodoo card many textures are low quality) and showed FPS anywhere from 30 to 60

Use the second link as that's working and has screenshots in the second set of links.

Its true, they got it to work....I looked at the screenies, it makes the game look OLD, but hey, they are only Voodoo 2's.....they were awesome in their day, but that time is past.

Well there are a lot of problems. Texture problems and shadowing. (Which is what makes Doom3 what it is )
In a certain pic, normal maps look like textures instead of working like they should. (Not complaining thought! making the game run on Voodoo2 cards is great )

Might wait for another patch before plumbing in my 2 voodoo cards just to see if they iron out any more problems! Old they maybe, but some people still use them. Heck, I'm still pissing about with a GeForce 3

I've still got me HL2 pre-load sitting on me HD that I haven't unlocked yet, so It might be a while before I want to rip me box to bits

Creative Labs patched their V2 to run 1024x1024 textures. That would be enough to improve visuals in Doom3.

That was pretty freaking cool. I used to have a voodoo 3 3000? and then a voodoo 5 5000/ I think the numbers are correct. It's been soo long. I can't even believe it works at all. Looks like ****e, but at least it runs.

That's pretty cool considering. Voodoo cards won't run most modren games, let alone an older voodoo card.

that feels like hl1, itīs the same, but lets think, this guy managed to run doom3 with 2 voodoos2 in sli, with very small textures, almost without lighting, at 60 fps, but if ya cant play the game itīs ok. but trying with an higher texture size at 30-40 fps would do a lot of difference he he, so what can a voodoo5 5500/6000 do?

Voodoo... *tear

I think I'm getting nostalgic. I'm gonna go dig up my old card and set up a system with it now.

NFS 3 pwns! I remember getting diablo 2 and it looked 100x better with 3dfx. Then the OpenGL patch for Quake. Ooh man, I'm all excited!

wow, it's shocking that they could even get that game to run on those. This is my first post here in the 3dfx section, and quite a good section it is. anyway, The game does have almost all of it's lighting and textures taken away. I think that destroys half of the game or so, but still, it's pretty solid and quite a feat to get that game running on voodoo 2's. I tip my cyber hat to them.

I have a 16 MB voodoo banshee "rotting" in the old PC, I may try it just to check what the guys say on that site is true...

Aaaah, the good old days with UT, HL with my vodoo banshee seem sooo far away (I bought my new PC in May, it's not so far away then )

Just laughing to myself when I saw those screens cause that was the first time I was actually able to see the far walls of a level.
(I only have the demo of Doom3 - story seemed too much of a remake of the first to actually buy the game.) But the demo runs great on my FX5700 but is darker than hell. Turn the gamma up & colors looked washed out. So I run dark and cant see sh*t.
Wow though. I got a V5 5500 64MB, two V2 12MB & an original Voodoo1 card.

Think I should put in the V5 with the two V2's running SLI?

Why do that? You will be able to run only the V5 or the V2 SLI as far as i know.

the game doesn't seem as scary with this patch. maybe my niece (9years old) would like to play it now. she saw me playing it when there were just people walking around and stuff and wanted to try it. then a bit later she saw the monsters and looked scarred and didn't want to play anymore. lol
