OK, i got my Sapphire 290 on Thursday. Awesome card.
The only part i couldn't take was the temp and fan noise.

After reading some Arctic Accelero Xtreme III success on the 290 i decided to do some aftermarket cooling.

Install went smooth, minus the 4 short ram sinks (i had some extra lying around).

The card idles at 37c and full load is around 60c with a slight OC of GPU 1100 and MEM at 1300 x 4. Cooler is very quiet :)

    VRM1 and 2 idle at 34c and 36c respectively.
Will check VRMs under load and report back.

Note: Ambient temp here is 29c.

    Which card do you have?

Thought so. Haven't seen a Sapphire unlocked. Some ppl claim they have but 5% perf improvement is due to OC.

    my own ASXIII tests today

OK ok the screwing is getting hot and heavy now sadly i was the only one in the room....red card down! red card down!

so i thuoght to myself yeah forget the asx and just get my big h70 and strap it on like who don't like that right?

great temps i had in a 68f room idle was 25c loaded with heaven bench no more then 54c even with 1.37v 1200 clocks vrms i had covered with some sticky thremal tape then some heatsinks.... it ran well...i tried to push it in alllll the way with voltage(dont ask) now it smells like burnt electric product.
now the cards the central attaction for a :peeleft: show
oh well hope the next one is better

How did you get such a high score on firestrike? I only got 14k when I ran it with 22k graphics score...

Cry it may just be your cpu scores holding the total score down.

    SAPPHIRE card inbound
mmmmmmm i like that name like a stripper's name keeping in tune with the naughty nature of this thread

Hope its a good one then if/or after i get my rma i do some hot cf 290xxx action.

IS it stable at 1,250mhz? I use to be able to run 3dmark at 1,180mhz no problem, but using the card for gaming I would get black screen lock ups randomly. Only reason I ask is because even the non reference cooler cards are barely overclocked which leads me to believe this board can't be stable with high clocks.

The best way I found to test the stability of the r9's is to play battlefield 4 on 1080p ultra settings with the scale resolution set to 200%. You will use around 3.2gb of memory and really stress the card to its max. Most benchmarking software uses minimum vram.

I obviously don't have Radeon but in my experience it is quite easy to run 3DMark with crazy clocks without issues. Same goes to Valley. Real games on the other hand can be unstable (TDRs) and in my case those happen because core would want higher voltage. Skyrim maxed out with TrSSAA, HBAO+ and stuff seems to be rather good at stress testing. I wonder if the overclocks that most people use really are stable.

DA2 is pretty demanding also as a DX11 game..

Great stuff cowie! I'm going to try using my DICE pot soon I hope, got my new water block for the 7970 so will pop that on tomorrow however I've become obsessed with mining! Dreams of making fast buck lol

Be nice if you threw up a pic of your rig when under cold, always nice to that stuff too ;)

And from what I saw 3dmark Vantage Extreme mode is the most stressful gpu test, if it passes that it passes all. :nerd:

Its so nice and simple with dice you dont have to shoot for the moon the first couple of times after that you wont bench much on water or air.:)

More power to you if thats the thing grab it while you can.

I'll have some vids/pics up no one ever asked so i never did

You can take a dress OFF a pig and its still a pig,In other words you get a beat chip then its a beat card no matter how its dressed.

No need for the heat on at all cus i got julie_moon on this nice snowy morning and that is hotxxx
    mmmmmmm Julie lol
    Anyways down to bussiness
    Vantage X????
Wow nobody ever asks for that...thats my dx10/dx9 warm up test.
1320 is good for all benches as a matter of fact:)

3d11 no tess and i could not hit 20k gpu with it on but i will save that for the boyscouts.

FSX is busted on the rive OS so i have to fix that since it was just a quick uninstall of the nv drivers did not clean it up but with cpu just on aio cooler its a start.

I'll get some good overclocking on with these cards in the new year when new psu arrives.
