    Hey, lads.

I need second opinion so to speak :) Some dude selling used video cards - Sapphire 7970 Vapor-X GHz Edition and Asus GTX 1050 Ti. Both in good condition. Both - 90 USD each. I have about 24 hours to make my mind...

    Thoughts?

PS. 1050 Ti - full retail set with original retailer warranty (about 2 years left); 7970 - just a card, no warranty.

Considering your running a 7850k I would keep everything Amd If I were you. You cant go wrong with either one really as both are Much faster then the intergrated graphics on that chip. Had one myself.

Yeah. Currently I'm stuck (till zen) with 7850K cpu. And judging by youtube videos about cpu bottleneck with amd/ nvidia cards about same performance range - nvidia have better performance with low-end cpu's. I'm expecting same performance with 1050 Ti VS 7970 on my rig. Will know for sure tomorrow :)

Thats not such a good advice. Having a slower CPU its actually better to have an nvidia card. AMD cards tend to perform better with faster cpu's due less ovehead.

That said i think 7970ghz aka 280X is a faster card in raw performance (having one myself). Its also more loud, makes more noise and being a 250W TDP card pull alot more power.

its up to you but to be honest i would take 1050ti.

Take a look at RE7 benchmark, 960 is around comparable to 1050ti :

Although it pains me, go for the 1050Ti. Basically the same performance for much lower power consumption, and a newer card has newer electronics so you get less chances of a bad card in the longer run.

Go for the 1050Ti for sure. This is despite the 7970 having been an excellent card throughout its lifespan.

280X will give you 6-12FPS more (depends on Game) at ~150-200tW 1050/1575 1.193v Max TDP at 228tW (BIOS Update nedded for it)
Your APU at 4.2GHz will be enough for 280X & 1050Ti
The nV 1050Ti will give you less tW ~100-130tW + You have GPU with 2y Warranty

Hmm, if you need Good Gaming GPU, IMO 280X will be better (more FPS, and it will shine more when you put it into RyZEN Build ;) )
If you need to wait for Vega/Volta with not so much Gaming then 1050Ti is an good choice.

I personally would go for the 1050Ti.

Anybody here got experience with current 7970 GHz edition and how it works with current AMD drivers? Just asking because I'm curious.

Hence I was asking about the driver situation, might not help if you've got raw performance but can't bring it to the screen.
My two friends with their 7970GHz editions can't run every game at high @ 1080p, but I'm not sure they even bother too much about it. I certainly don't know about the current AMD driver situation and how well those "ancient" chips are still supported with all the features / performance wise.

edit: they haven't got the real GHz edition, just OC'ed them a bit to match stock clocks on the GHz, not sure if this makes much of a difference.

About drivers and such. I' not such big of the gamer atm...work and such. On my current (give it away to my nephew a week ago) OC'ed 7970 at 1100/1500Mhz - played Division a lot for the past month. Have a huge fps boost in dx12 mode...about 5-15 fps. Doom runs like a charm in Vulkan/ Ultra/ 1080p. Pretty much around 75 fps all the time. MGS5TPP - max settings/ 1080p - 60fps+ all the way. No overclocking issues in relive crimson. Pretty much everything solid...

Your APU would murderer 7970's performance. Go for 1050Ti and forget about 7970.

And now i'm starting to think...maybe i should sell my A10/ mobo setup :) Get fx 6300 instead. Same price. No exchange cost. And go for 7970Ghz afterwards. 90 usd...good price, right?

Same thing man, fx 6300 will then again hold it back just like APU did. You'll need something like i5 to actually make that 280X run like it should.

I dont think there is a point doing anything but go with 1050ti and let it go.

6 cores OC'ed to about 4.6Ghz...surely it will be better?

They used gtx 780 for that bench, you're not gonna see that with 7970, and battlefield 4 is the best case scenario. Witcher 3 is more realistic, so you should see a few more fps, but I still recommend GTX 1050 Ti. What kind of games do you want to play?
