Anyone watch it the other day? New HBO series, something to tide me over til more Boardwalk Empire is released. It's pretty good and based off a book, I read. A Song of Fire and Ice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire I really liked it, good looking women, decent action, awesome swords. I'd say the acting was really good, too. http://youtu.be/BpJYNVhGf1s I'd recommend to watch it.
I like it a lot, but I want moar WINTER in it! Read it's based on a series of books by George R. R. Martin, would love to get my hands on these but I doubt I can find them here. PS - Sean Bean ftw
I highly recommend anyone to read the books, they are absolutely mind-bogglingly good. There's been 4 of them so far, and a 5th book is due this summer after many years of waiting. The TV series is based on the first book, and it's already been renewed for another season based on the 2nd book. I haven't watched the first episode of the TV series yet as I'm away on holidays, but I have huge expectations for this. If you've read the books you'll know that this series is perfect for an HBO TV series with its vile nature. R.R. Martin doesn't shun away from any means when it comes to giving the readers a punch to the stomach. This is nothing like Lord of the Rings, trust me. Either way... Winter is indeed coming.
Just watched episode 1.It's nothing special in story but it's awesome if you watch it just for fun.Sex,blood, violence everything is there  Reminds me on something like mix btwn Oblivion and Dragon Age.
Last night watched part of the first episode...really liked and even felt in love with the blonde girl that married the barbarian dude, damn that girl has a really nice little body....as for the rest of the episode, who cares...It seems nowadays series have to have sex in them ...but its ok.Always is nice to see T & A late at night...
The story will get there - trust me, this is about a lot more than sex, gore and violence. From what I have read, the first episode is primarily an introductory episode for people who have not read the books. The series has a lot of sex in it because that's the way the books are. There's rape, incest and wild orgies. This is fantasy for adults.
Yeah it's HBO so there's tons of sex and nudity all the time. Not that I mind boobies and all it's just a cheap ploy at attracting a wider audience that's getting old and it kind of insults my intelligence. But, yeah, good opening episode and crazy ending. Not sure if I was more shocked that dude pushed the kid or that he was boinking his sister.
Because it's natural for people to have sex? If you read the books you'll realise its not only for shock and effect. I was afraid that HBO would overplay the sex... it's there in the books but it's not overdone. The incest part that is apparently in the end of the first episode is actually crucial for the progression the storyline. The important thing here is to avoid taking things out of context. Most of the sex in this book series is actually an integral part of the story.
Meh... It's voyeurism to me. If they/he can't tell as story without it then I blame lack of imagination. And integral part your say? ... It's similar to, say, someone's trip to WC.
Not really, are you saying that if sex is in something, it's automatically unimaginative? Cmon, this is a story set in the times of Kings & Princesses. There's tons of historical fact that they lived the life of sex maniacs back then. Heck, there was one king who had sex with 4,000 women in a year during his rule. Times were like that back then. Rape and sex, that's all people could do to escape from the ****ty life they had. Still, this is basically a setup episode. I read alot of books, so for me, this is very usual for a good story to setup a world, introduce the characters, ect. Bad books are the ones that within the first 5-10 minutes, you already know the main plot, bad guy, ectera.
I suggest reading the books before you comment any further on the development of the storyline in RR Martin's fictional universe. Saying someone going to the ****ter is equivalent to people having sex as a means of developing tension and relations between fictional characters in an epic is rather silly.
Soft core porn? You could say that Boardwalk Empire is, as it has quite a few sex scenes. But then you'd be missing out on an awesome plot and character development.
I was just trying to make a point that I don't see any reason to show people ****ing. I'm sure you can portray that in different way too. I don't like voyeurism and that's exactly what it is. I'm going to say this very clearly, so that everyone know: I'm not a fan of sex in TV/movies. I've made my point and you are free to disagree but that's what I think.
Fine, you're of course entitled to your opinion. I just find it pretty odd that you've already made up your mind about something you have no insight into, since you haven't read the books nor watched the series, just because you heard there are "titties" in it. That, to me, sounds pretty narrow-minded.
Thanks for sharing your recommendation on the books, I'll definitely check them out. I recorded the first episode on Atlantic but still haven't watched it - I was going to save a few episodes and watch them together
