I have a quick question. For those who have gotten software from Windowsdeals can anyone tell me how many computers the license keys that come with some of the free software they are giving out are good for?

I am assuming 1 PC but I would like more verification to be sure.

Hey TK, know where I can find a 6-12 month "free" sub for Avast? lol

Norton's resource usage dropped quite a bit back in 2008. They've been pretty good about keeping resource usage low since then. From 2008-2010 their detection rates put them ahead of Kaspersky and BitDefender. However, since 2012, they've pretty well gone to crap again.

Kaspersky is a joke imho. After connecting a heavily infected harddrive and having Kaspersky declare it clean, I was forced to replace it. Kaspersky allowed countless viruses to infect my PC. I plugged the same harddrive into my laptop running Avast, which effectively protected my laptop and cleaned the infected harddrive. Avast has become my "fallback" antivirus. It's just too resource hungry to run full time. If I could get a free year (or even 6 month) subscription, I'd consider it though. It's malware detection sucks though.

Norton, McAfee and Kaspersky all require the use of their own, separate uninstall utilities. BitDefender, Panda and Avast seem to be the easiest antivirus applications to uninstall. I've seen the incluided Norton and McAfee uninstallers brick systems several times.

One thing I like about Avast, even the free version is the boot time scan - that's incredibly handy for infected machines where the malware is locked/running once inside of windows and can't be deleted - scanning outside of windows catches them when they are sleeping

And of course, the fact that it speaks to you

They offer 90-day trials from time to time, but I always manage to find them a day too late.

Avast tries to sell you **** too.... Always hated all the marketing crap. BUT, if I had a dime for every virus Avast has removed for me that Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee, NOD32, AntiVir, etc has missed, I could actually afford a vacation.....lol. I've had great luck with Panda Free keeping systems clean, but it pretty well sucks for cleaning up an already infested system.

lol, Yea I hate the popups on the free version, kinda makes me feel like I'm installing adware with something that's meant to prevent it

You can disable them with a bit of GPEDIT and disabling all info popups, but that disables all popups including updates iirc

Ashampoo is crap. It uses BitDefender engine for antivirus and Emsisoft for anti-malware, but has crap detection rates for both and even worse removal. Technical support is almost non-existant. You'd be better off with MSE/Defender. I was searching for reviews on it last night. Was rather interested after I saw it appear on the giveawayradar site you linked to.
