Lol it's a stick shift. You aren't going to be doing much better without slapping the clutch down mega hard, which no sports car owner enjoys doing. I don't even like doing that in my crappy truck.

Funny, I saw a V8 Vantage convertible while leaving work. I drove past the same one on the highway a few weeks ago. It's a black rag top. Very nice. Not the nicest I've seen here though. That title belongs to a V12 Vantage that I saw near my house. Black, low, and sexy as hell those things are.

I remember when Clarkson did that. :)

Priceless! I could care less the car is an amazing car to own/drive.

Disappointing, though, that the car he did that to is the ZR1... BEAUTIFUL supercharged V8....

Meh, you're not paying for exquisite body work when you buy a Corvette. World class performance for 1/3 the price is the name of the game.

Some English dude named Colin Chapman said something about adding lightness. Less than 3200lbs with more than 500hp in the Z06, you're not getting that with steel panels.
This is also accomplished through having a push rod engine, which is lighter and more compact, and a transverse leaf spring [different than a regular leaf spring], two other common stupid critiques of the Corvette.
The criticism than 75% are owned by old, fat white dudes is however valid and true.

Very true. It's an excellent driver's car, even if it is covered in plastic. The old fat guy thing is true for sure though. They all seem to buy automatic Corvettes too, which annoys me to no end. They shouldn't even be offered in automatic as far as I'm concerned.

True and most of them are automatics that get a ton of chrome and don't see past 55 mph. I can assure you I'm neither old or fat. I am a white dude and I know how to ring this car around a track.

Yup. I bought mine used for 20K less than it was new. Cannot complain for a daily driver with my minor bolt-ons for suspension/engine...

    0-60 under 4 seconds
Deep 11 second 1/4mi time at over 120mph
    Around 490hp/515tq (428rwhp/445rwtq)
    Over 1.0G in corners
30MPG highway and a comfortable highway cruiser
Cheap insurance because of that old fat white demographics

...and I can embarrass just about anything I see on the road. :)

EDIT: No lame automatic here for me... :)

True, steel is heavy. But aluminum carbon fiber etc are not near as heavy. What I don't get is that you pay 100k for a plastic body and materials that are used in other production cars, ie Malibu lineup, and the engine can be found in other vehicles that are less than half the price. Lot of markup I think.

And yes, seen tons of corvettes, all old white guys. Kids that wanted one who couldn't afford it till they were old

Well that's the thing. What Clarkson failed to mention in his review is that most of the ZR1's body panels are actually carbon fiber. The bumpers are basically the few that aren't.

I don't recall much from that episode, but the fenders, hood, and the roof are carbon fiber/composite material. Still leaves a large percentage of the body plastic. Really bothers me when you're looking at a car and you can use your index finger to press on the front bumper and the whole thing shifts with a creak noise. You can also nitpick on the interior plastics, which is why I can't fathom 120k
