I have 3 Microcenters near me so that's not a problem. lol.

If I do indeed jump on that I5 2500k, what mobo should I get? Not looking to blow the bank on a mobo.

Thoughts on those Asus models ?

Iam also looking for one that has 8+ SATA ports and at less one each available PCIe 1x and PCI slot after installing two dual slot cards for SLI or crossfire.

Are 6 sata ports average now for a mobo ?

If it´s for a gaming pc just buy 8gb, no need for 16gb.

I think the best price/value ram atm to get is ddr3 1600mhz cl7/8.

So after reading Guru3d christmas buying guide, http://www.guru3d.com/article/pc-buyers-guide-winter-2011/2

I came away with knowing this is the type of build I am going with anyway.

But specific parts are still questionable. Most notably the mobo. I def want a Z68 chipset but there aren't that many reviews on Newegg of them yet, and I was still looking at Asus boards for know real reason other than the name. I wanted to spend between $150 and $180 on the mobo. No need for anything more than that.

I was looking at this Asus mobo

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131729

but the feedback is less than stellar.

I know this isn't helping but ... wow, this thread isn't dead yet :p?

nyrmetros, you still haven't been able to build a new rig all this time?

Hey, it took me like 5 months to buy my 2500K and mobo... and i still dont have mems to try it lol (funny stuff is that i changed like 3 or 4 times the mobo that i wanted to buy, and i ended buying my first choise out of frustration, P8P67-M Pro, cant have it all with low budget and low variety).

Still, in this thing, i think that you may end up happier with your bought making a half tought fast desition rather than overthinking everything. Mostly cuz in a few months, usually everything changes for one reason or another (28nm delay, HDD prices going sky high, new GPUs arriving soon, or not so soon, ivy bridge, underperforming bulldozer, new SSDs, etc).

So buy something and be done with this!

sure, doesnt matter what you buy, it should be a total fail if you are not happy by just the fact of getting a new toy

but a little-moderate thinking is the better way :)

I think so too, but personally I think he should split a new topic as chaining on top of an older one is hard to follow if he's indeed building another rig again.

This topic dates back to 2008, that's before even I joined Guru3D.

Building and designing rigs do take months, I take months as well ... I just find it interesting how this zombie thread keeps coming back to life :p.

Yea I had some $issues which I still have, but I am slowly peicing together this new rig. Actually the guts of my current E8400 are going inside the new Helios case and my Antec 1200 will hold the new parts.

I am currently happy with my E8400, but I have the opportunity to upgrade but it has a strict budget. It's much harder keeping to the budget than I thought it would be . Lol
