sup guys so ive been playing hawken and with the new patch from 4/19/2013 physx has been a real cool feature to the game.

I want to know if its a good idea to pair up a 480 with a dedicated 8800gt for physx.

my 480 does well in ultra settings, but if i enable the NVIDIA physx ingame it takes my 480 to its knees, even if i lower the graphical settings to medium.

So i have a 8800gt laying arround, and i want to ask u guys before i make the hassle of disconecting my pc installing the video card etc etc, so any kind guru, if you have a similar setup, plz tell me your experience.

    thank you.

Not going to help you much if at all, you are better off getting a newer GPU....

^^ Dear me, you should think a bit more before spamming out comments.

The 8800gt is certainly not optimal but it will definitely increase your framerate. If you overclock it a bit (yes you can oc physx cards with afterburner), you'll get decent improvements too.

thanks for your sudgestion, BUT, i wont updrade my gpu just for the sake of physx in just one game (hawken) my card without physx toggled ingame works fine in ultra settings.

i just wonder if my 8800gt would be a good deal to dedicate physx.

i guess id try it out tomorrow myself, ill report the news here, if anyother mortal wants to know the results, but nevertheless if any of u guys Actually have this kind of setup, plz do comment here, thank you.

Hawken have very intense physx implimentation. With all those particles flying around fps occasionally is cut in half even with Titan (as people reported at Anandtech using an GT650 ti for physx).

    You can try it though.

The 8800GT is generally a good card for PhysX. You might want to try it and see the benefit for yourself.

Thing is, PhysX brings the 480 to its knees because it's handling both graphics and PhysX. I've seen that this brings down performance more than what is reasonable.

I've had PhysX High bring min FPS on Batman Arkham Asylum to 26FPS on my GTX260. I added a 9600GT and it rose back to 39FPS. 50% improvement for a card less than half as fast as a GTX260.

Actually I do know what I am talking about since I do have a GTX480 and an 8800GT and have tried what you suggested the poster do and it didn't help much in my games.

This is very true as well. My system is different from the posters and it might be better for them than it was for me.

From my own experience with my 680's, even with one dedicated to PhysX I've seen near unplayable scenes, like 20 FPS I'd say. I have now decided to just disable physX on Hawken.. A shame from my point of view, running 680 SLi.

I don't think a 8800 GT will help enough to make it enjoyable.

EDIT : Though I'm used to constant 100 to 120 FPS, so it could be 30 or 40, but still very unpleasant compared to the stable 120 with PhysX disabled.
    Not worth it IMO.

Pretty sure your 8800gt as dedicated physx might slow down your gtx 480 in Hawken physx.
Here a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbww3dhzK0M showing the 8600gt slowing down the gtx 480. I know your 8800gt have more Stream Processors it might increase or hold it down

I am playing hawken at 2560x1440 and with heavy physx it drop to 35ish fps on my gtx 670 xD

    8600gt is crippled in memory bandwith. 128bit and usually ddr2 vs 256bit gddr3 on the 8800gt. 112sp vs 32sp.
