Just a quick question Loci - is that GB "Gigabyte"? If so, try downloading the new Bios - F2 - it has some real issues with monitor detection, but it should convert you to a full on 6800 NU in terms of Pipes. Note: This may only be for the Fanless one,

Got the card in my profile (on the box there's written golden sample).

This is the log of “NVIDIA VGA BIOS information”:
    $ffffffffff ---------------------------------------------------
    $ffffffffff NVIDIA VGA BIOS information
    $ffffffffff ---------------------------------------------------
$1100000000 Title : NVIDIA GeForce 6800 VGA BIOS
    $1100000002 Version : 5.40.02.12
    $1100000001 BMP version : 5.28
    $1100000100 BIT version : 1.00
    $1100010000 Perf. level 0 : 325MHz/350MHz/1.20V
    $1100020000 VID bitmask : 00000011b
    $1100020100 Voltage level 0 : 1.10V, VID 00000000b
    $1100020101 Voltage level 1 : 1.20V, VID 00000001b
    $1100020102 Voltage level 2 : 1.40V, VID 00000010b
    $1100000003 GPU units mask : 16x1,6vp

Is there a chance to make it a 'real' 16x1,6vp Video card?
Now it is a 12x1,5vp...I mean I read the FAQ of softmodding but I'd like to do some beta if you want...
Anyway is soft-modding irreversible (eg. if i try to activate the locked fragment units, and they don't work, can i come back without damaging my hardware?) ???

    Many thnx, Emanem! :D

    Awesome job Unwinder ;)

I wish my poor club3d will softmoddeable in one way, at least the vertex shaders units :( . I hope absolutely moddeable, please god :O :D

What brand were the two unmoddable ones?

Not assuming it follows brand lines, but if I were in the market for a 6800nu, I'd like to buy one that has at least had ONE card work and avoid brands who had cards that did NOT work. Again - not presuming it follows brand lines, but I'd like to at least use the information to increase my odds of getting a 'hit'.

    From what I read:

With at least one fully moddable:
    - Asus 6800GE (isn't really an nu, though, and priced accordingly)
    - MSI
    - nVidia reference (those are eVGA manufacture, right?)
    - Gigabyte

With at least one completely unmoddable:
    - ?
    - ?

With at least one card *partially* moddable (all seem to be strictly +1 vertex shader rather than +4 pipes):
    - ?
    - ?
    - ?
    - ?
    - ?
    - ?
    - ?
    - ?
    - ?

What model MSI NX 6800 have you got Unwinder, 128 Mb, DDR, GDR?
I'm planning on getting a new card soon, I had the NX 6800 128 Mb DDR in mind for myself.

Well, that's sort of my point.

The 6800nu comes on an nu PCB, 12PS/5VP, 128mb ram, DDR1 memory. Retails for ~$270.

The 6800GT comes on an Ultra PCB, 16PS/6VP, 256mb ram, GDDR3. Retails for ~$378.

Your card comes on an Ultra PCB, 12PS/5VP, 256mb ram, GDDR3. Retails for. Retails for ~$404.

To me, it's more 'GT' than it is 'nu', but it's obviously not really ENTIRELY either of them, it's something in between - although the price is higher than either (as if that makes sense).

I bet lot's of guys jump out from joy with this soft-mod :D

...because the price difference between GT and Ultra is kinda high and this trick eliminate it :D ...and the chances of ulocking functional pipes seems to be high :D

Damn, I wish there is anything to unlock in my oldie eVGA FX5700Ultra card :D

The first fully unmoddable is ASUS V9999GE, the second one is PixelView 6800. But once again, brand means nothing because there is fully moddable ASUS V9999GE too.

Do you think my Gainward (6800 model 2100) would be moddable?
I've seen 16/6 on bios log; if it should be moddable should I wait for next RivaTuner release?

    Hi and thnx, Emanem! ;)

Ps. Very nice job pal! :D

No way to know until you've tried it with the new Softmod.
"I've seen 16/6 on bios log; if it should be moddable should I wait for next RivaTuner release?"
This doesn't mean anything to my knowledge. If it's going to be moddable you'll find out when you try it.

    Statistics is updated:

In addition to previously mentioned 16 tested samples, we tried 4 more.
One of them (Sparkle 6800) is fully moddable too. Two of them are partially moddable to 12x1,6vp. The last sample (Canyon 6800) is the most interesting - it is the first sample with physically damaged vertex unit we've met. The tester managed to get it working in 16x1,5vp only.

    So currently:

    20 tested samples
    2 completely unmoddable
    5 completely moddable
13 partially moddable (12 with all fully functional vertex units, 1 with fully functional pixel units).

The owners of the fully moddable 6800LE cards will be some lucky bastards! :D
Double the pipes, and 2 more VPs! :p

Are you intending to keep score once 15.2 is released?

The results will come in thick and fast, as will the "hey, it doesn't work (because i didn't read the manual)" comments, of course, and I think many people might well base a potential 6800LE or NU purchase on the chances of successful modding based on these results.

I was thinking about ASUS cards in particular: ASUS sells the standard 3 types of card (NU/GT/Ultra) and also their Gamer Edition NU (12 pipes / 256MB RAM) as well as the V9999/GT/128 card (with full 16 pipe GPU but only 128MB RAM). Given their extra variants, it makes me think that they are testing GPUs they get in from Nvidia and making sub-classifications of the GT/NU chips for those extra two categories. The implication is that there may well be more truly broken pipelines in the ASUS NU cards compared to the average from vendors who simply sell on NVidia reference designs.

    Sound logical?
