Ryse is a fine point of opting lower res with better shading and whatnot.

My point in Morrowind is it's what my Pc was doing 10 years ago (1080 x 60-120fps. My point being, that 1080p & 60+fps aren't next generation features, nor are they cutting edge technologies. They're age old technologies finally being supported by the consoles. I've seen reviews though, for PS4 and XB1 games showing that they aren't performing very well on these new resolutions as far as FPS goes.

I think we have the same point, just looking at it from a different angle.

My point is also that 1080p or 60fps are not next gen technologies, they are just two things that some developers are considering less important when designing their games.

Even the vastly underpowered Xbox can do a good job when used well, Forza 5 is 1080/60 and last I heard Ryse had the record for highest character poly count in a game.

Fact remains that, wherever the blame lies, 1080p 60fps should have been bog standard 5 years ago, so I agree trying to market it like 1080p 60FPS is something impressive is rancid.

1080p 60FPS should be the bare minimum for a game in 2014 (should have been that way 5-6 years ago)

    It wont be.

I can forgive Xbox 360 but not these new ones, by that I mean, they should have enough power in reserve for devs to design games with great gfx and also hold 1080p 60FPS without issue, we are on the brink of 4K and 120hz is becoming the norm

    This is weak.

    Who said 1080/60 is wanted?

Many, if not most people with large rooms or small TVs can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p and alot of console gamers think 60fps is not necessary in a SP game.

If they have enough reserve to do 1080/60 then why not ditch 60fps and increase the graphical effects until the framerate drops to 30.

Due to not upgrading this PC it's been years since I've had 60fps in high end games.

Well then they're a bunch of dribblers then aren't they.

I just got off Ghosts on XBox One and the graphics are absolute face palm - however I would much much rather lower res or crap gfx than the slide show that is 30FPS.

I think a lot of people forget one key point, price, go and build a PC for £400 and try and play anything at 1080p 60fps with all the shiny bits enabled.

Also worth mentioning that most of devs didn't even have the final dev kits until earlier this year, the tools for these consoles and the resources that the operating systems require has been a moving target throughout development for these games. Somewhat unfair to be judging the abilities of these consoles from the launch titles if you ask me, you only have to go back to the launch of the PS3 and Xbox 360 to see how things improved over the years.

There is so much more to a game's look than the rez and Hz.

    It's called art.

Metal Gear games are great looking - more so than say Crysis games because of the overall look and feel.

Art is where it's at. I recently replayed Metroid Prime on a HDTV (Wii version) and it still was a great experience because the art is fantastic.

I hear it a lot, and this is why: Imagine Nintendo franchises on a console with the power of a PS4 or X1.

You really need to come off BF4 at 1080p with 150% Resolution Scaling running at 60FPS then go straight to Ghosts on Xbox One, and then re-write that statement in earnest - if you can.

One of the reasons the WiiU is so exciting. Nintendo's quality of art mixed with powa!

Not the best example, BF4 is complete garbage artistically.

Technically it's fantastic though, but that's two different things.

As per above I do love the design of Nintendo games, just wished I enjoyed the gameplay.

Both of those games have almost ZERO art direction. They just aim for "realistic" visuals.

Compare a Mario game to CoD to Destiny to Borderlands.

Seems like something easy to fix with an update.

It has to support 50i for BluRay so it should be easy, unless a gui issue.

I do agree 50i isn't ideal these days though.

Can they even fix this, how could they use the snap feature while playing a 60mhz game onto a 50mhz pal tv program, the pal picture will look like its being transmitted through time from John Logie Bairds bedroom. lol

XP-200 that's true, the more I think about it the more I think they might not be able to fix this.

How will they manage to display 50hz and 60hz content at the same time?

I'm sure setting the console at 50hz would sort the TV side of things, but I'm sure that would cause issues for games.

TBH most people probably won't even notice the issues anyway, nearly everyone I know who watches TV on a PC or laptop does it at 60hz, 25fps content included.
