I have an 8350 on the way, was wondering if there's anything different when overclocking compared to good old Phenom II. Pill, I'm sure you've gone balls deep already, what's your take? I went with the '50 because they're supposedly binned better, so I'm expecting some good clockin'.

Hey man, yeah it's just like overclocking the Phenom II the same rules apply. 1.55v absolute max (not recommended though). What else... raising the CPU/NB past 2600 seems to give little or no gains.

Disabling cores doesn't give higher overclocks fwiw....

Still testing the HT, got it sitting at 3000mhz just now and I'm going to run some different benches and see if improves performance.....

The 8320/8350 seem to have the same OC headroom, however I have found the CPU/NB to be very stubborn since I need about 1.45v for 2800 which is ridiculous.

PhazeDelta is only using 1.29v for his NB, this could indicate the chips are binned but I don't know for sure yet. :)

Hmmm...nice to know. I'll see what mine can do when it arrives. I also grabbed some new RAM to play with since this is Gen 1 DDR3 (Ancient stuff, 1.65-1.85V range lawl). Some G.Skill 1866. Hopefully I can get it to 2133 or around there. What timings are you at to run that high?

    Using 1.6v
This is actually 1866 but I overclocked it. Gotta love Hynix! :D

Nice. Does FX have a memory voltage limit like Sandy Bridge? And how did you find out what IC's your memory is using?

    FX can take 1.65v ram.

Kingston use Hynix on their HyperX line, I knew this already but X-bit labs confirmed it when they removed the heatsink during a review of HyperX T1 (which is what I have).

    Hynix are fantastic overclockers...

Also, go to the SPD tab in AIDA64 and look at the top of page, it should say who made the IC's.

Another way is with Thaiphoon Burner.....

Reviews, or when you get your kit look at the serial. if 240 is in the serial its hynix, if its 340 its samsung

Ice you must've jinxed me - after my last post Firefox crashed then I got some weird errors on my desktop. So I run memtest86 and guess what.....both sticks are bad! lol

How's that for luck.....hmmm unusual they both went bad at the same time tho -maybe I OC'd them too far...

Lifetime warranty though so I'll RMA it tomorrow, using a spare set of 1600 atm.

Wow, that's awful luck, hehe. My bad. I'm still waiting on OCZ to send me a new Vertex 3 replacement. Don't think it will get here in time with the new stuff, so that means two Windows installs in my future (Because I can't wait to play with my new toys). Fun stuff.

Also, did you memtest with the Northbridge at default and in a different slot? It is really unusual for two sticks to die at the same time...

Yeah still getting errors so might be something else....NB maybe or a bad dimm slot.

Or hopefully it's just coincidence and all 4 sticks are bad. Heh not likely...

Well hopefully you didn't take the piss out of that CPU already, haha.

Pill, what errors did you get on the desktop?

0x5 which is access violation (usually memory). And BSOD PFN_LIST_CORRUPT (memory again)

Also got some error messages I've never seen before, they popped up in the task bar saying my xxxx app I had open was corrupt. Then FF started crashing to desktop and that's a sure sign you got memory problems.

Anyway I dropped the spare ram back to stock and now everything is hunky dory. I had overclocked it from 1600-1866 and the timings might have been a bit too tight.

Unfortunately my HyperX T1 (the good stuff) is completely fubared...

Alright. I was just wondering so I know what to keep an eye out for. I ordered some Dominator RAM last night which I plan to OC.

Normally overclocked ram either works or it doesn't. If it boots then it should run fine forever and if the boot fails you know you pushed it too far. In my experience there is no in between....

are you sure about the dominator series for oc because most of them are just regular ram with a high performance profile to reach higher clocks, so you don't have much headroom left to oc more, sure if you take the dominator platinum rated at 2800Mhz it's more than enough no need to oc more but the price is just ridiculous.

I went with the platinums. I guess I will see how far they can be pushed.

I forgot to mention I ordered a H100i too. I want to see how it compares to my Silver Arrow SB-E

Phazedelta1 which one did you choose the 2800Mhz one?
