As other posters have stated also stated, I have used a Seasonic 600w, since 2005, in my old rig. No problems, quiet, it just keeps going and going. I did get the Corsair EX1200 for my new rig though.

I got this last week. The could had added another inch or so on a couple of the cables but other then that, this really is a top of the line PSU.

Buddy, it's for my old rig.

    I'm buying a new one.

Exactly Unless your going to jump the SLI bandwagon or buy a monster card you should be actually seeing power consumption decreases across CPU, RAM and motherboard.

FWIW my rig idles at ~60-65W, runs at load/gaming at ~160-200W and handles stress testing at ~300-320W.

And this is at the socket, meaning actual power required from the PSU is less.

A lot of people overrate their power needs, almost no one needs 700-1000W PSUs.

Oh, I agree with you there.

But Capacitor aging comes into play.

If you're not worried about power usage too much though, it's always better to have a little extra head room. I'm still my 550w that's about maybe almost 2 years old now, so given that it only works max at 80% originally, and cap aging, I'm probably getting oh maybe at the most480w? Probably giving myself too much power there lawlz. :D

Love my X-650, that and my CPU are the nicest components I have ever had the pleasure of using. I like to grab these 650's when their on sale at newegg for like $109.99. Might be a few dollars more initially but the power saved, reliability, and clean quality they provide make it all worthwhile.

I have, I'm not even utilizing half the capacity of my PSU under load.

Realistically I should have gone with the 400W model rather than the 460W one, though at the time I didn't expect my power consumption to be as low as it turned out to be.

I suppose there might be a 400W platinum model in my future, once those start making it to market. :)

Capacitor ageing is not a good reason to over estimate PSU.

There are no good reasons to over rate a PSU in such a manner. Everything de rates over time.

If only you knew how power companies cheap out at your local sub stations... I've seen 90 year old distribution transformers in which the impregnated paper (oil filled dielectric) turned into mushy goo yet it still runs and no one intends to change it.

Doesn't capacitor aging come into play at least after 20 years? I have an oscilloscope i think is 30 years old or more ant it still works fine. Well .... as fine as 30 year old tech can work:)

At lower loads and/or with decent airflow it likely will.

However, if that's what you want you should probably look at Seasonic's fanless models. I'm using the 460W model myself and aside from a bit too loud electrical noise I'm very happy with it.

No, the fan will always activate once psu hits a certain temp or goes over a certain wattage; believe its around 700 watts. Even when the fan is on, i cant hear it at all

Seems im the only guru with this psu, and i can safely say its the best 1kw psu you can buy. Anyone contemplating getting this psu, it is very much worth the price premium.

Yeah, loving my seasonic. Don't think I'll ever need to change power supplies.

well ive had 3 OCZ PSU's in the last 8 years. bad ventilation and noise made me decide not to ever choose ocz again.

I should probably update this a bit. as my numbers have been thrown off lately since the release of some newer units.. might re-take the census.

Mostly people who simply hear the phrase 'seasonic', or 'Corsair' simply run out and tell the world what to get, and it doesn't leave much choice.

Go on quality, not the quantity of those who advise to make a purchase.

I have decent guide back on OCN.

How about posting your guide here instead of promoting OCN ?
