hi i got a laptop ibm thinkpad intel 1.83ghz (2 cpu) 1gb ddr2 667mhz intel 945GM i've seen the list of games on intel's website...but there arent much games there... did anyone tried any games on it? post here what u tried and how it worked.. and btw...there's no chance at all to play battlefield 2 on it? :'(
rofl Battlefield 2 on that thing? I'm sorry but hell no it wouldnt run on that. My sisters laptop can barely run WOW and it has that video card.
Sorry man, you won't even get CLOSE to running BF2 on that thing. Honestly, I would be looking more at Quake 3 Arena if you enjoy online FPS. I can't even play BF2 on my laptop and its got a 9200 Pro with 32MB dedicated memory.
Yeah theres a reason that list is pretty short. Your video card is sharing system memory. Putting it simply a video card needs memory to load textures and a number of other things. When it runs out of it's own memory (which an onboard doesn't normally have very much of if at all, hence why unless a laptop is actually made for gaming it generally doesn't do so well) it goes to system memory. Since your onboard video is more than likely using purely system memory that 1Gb is going to run out really quick. XP by itself uses around 256mb's, and a typical game will crunch around 500-700mb's+ even more so for a high detail game like BF2 which has to load an ungoldy number of textures at the very least.
Civ IV runs great on it, counter strike source will not. I haven't installed much more than that on it b/c I got mine for mainly school work (Toshiba Satellite with Intel T2300 and 2 gigs of ram).
Hardly, there's one hell of alot of good 2D games out there, in fact most of my favourite games are 2D.
Technically, you can run FEAR on minimum settings with reasonable performance. You may need to launch it with 3DAnalyze though, as that's the only way to have it keep your resolution settings and not have them reset to 640x480 every time. Actually this particular onboard chip isn't so bad because intel finally decided to include hardware pixel shader support (version 2.0). This solves a lot of problems as pixel shaders are really tough to emulate through software. The main drawback (aside from shared memory) is that there's no hardware support for vertex shaders. This can be overcome because vertex shaders can be emulated through hardware well enough and yield somewhat acceptable performance. Also with the aformentioned 3Danalyze, you can fool the application into thinking you have HW vertex shader support, and have it basically run through software, and only having diminished performance. That's about it. I'd experiment with a lot of games if I were you... Newer games are also more heavily using pixel shaders and since you have hardware support for it, the performance may actually be acceptable.
945GM isn't the name of the GPU by the way, it's the name of the chipset. The GPU is the GMA950 if I'm correct. It doesn't perform that bad indeed, but Battlefield 2 is still out of the question. linky (the 3dmark01 score is incorrect, but the rest should be)
hmm i tried running far cry on it and it runs fine on medium settings... i wonder if i should get doom 3 and half life 2...dont wanna risk if it wont work.. anyone can think of any other nice games that might work?
Depends... Doom 3 retains more of its graphical quality when run on lower settings, but you're going to be limited to DX8.1 mode in HL2 (and trust me when I didn't have my 7900GT, I had to use the same onboard and for the life of me I couldn't get DX9 mode going). Overall I'd go for HL2 retail because it comes with a bunch of good extras, and in DX7 mode on lower settings runs quite nicely, and doesn't look THAT bad.
Doom 3 is a bad idea unless you think 17fps is enough @640x480 lowest detail (and that's the average framerate which means whenever there is action, the framerate will be even lower; not a great idea)
I've got a 9550 with 32mb in mine and I can't play much either. You'll be able to play a lot of older games fairly well though.
so which older games, or new games which doesnt need a powerfull video card u people reccomend? (except for racing games).. thanks
