I guess again I should clarify more. In my current build I moved from the e8400 to a FX-6300. I understand that the 750ti isnt the top of the line, I just wanted to confirm it was a decent bump over an old 5850. I dont feel the need to stretch to far since I will build a true gaming rig in the coming year.

No. Not with that CPU. You don't get a full performance out of 5850 (you do, but barley), and for newer games your CPU will be a huge bottleneck, GPU won't matter at all. Example: if you take Assassins Creed 4 on your PC and put Titan instead of 5850 you won't be pushing more than 30-40 fps. If you put i5 cpu and keep 5850 (and OC it) you will be pushing ~40ish fps under the same settings.

edit: I just saw your last post saying you got FX-6300. That is decent but I would go for R9 270 OC or X model instead of nV 750

Get the 750ti or nothing, then upgrade to 800 series when doing a full pc upgrade.

Learn to use the quote function, replies to the OP are generally without quotation, and with no mention of 760 in your post doesnt help you any either.

Sounds like user error if you've received two different cards. Reinstall windows

Can I get away with a simple reinstall so as to not lose everything, or do I need a full reformat?

I ran a driver cleaner etc hoping to avoid this...clearly to no avail.

That's the one I used, multiple times, with both cards.

Last thing i would run is ccleaner + reg cleaner, then auslogics registry cleaner. After that, delete ghost entries from dev manager. technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff184583.aspx

If still no avail, try another HDD and reinstall windows, if it doesnt work still id say you have a compatibility issue somewhere.

Do you have latest mobo BIOS? Had someone i know that had a older mobo that didnt recognise the newer card. It's a long shot tho.

What an help. Move from HD5850 (vliw5 1440shaders) to 750Ti, It is F* side grade at best.
Only benefit is 3 times lower power consumption, but difference for energy bill will not pay that card back in few years OP is going to use it.

Yes, 750Ti has advantage of better performance once heavy tesselation/AA is used.
(very bad vs bad performance since neither can do modern games with those enabled/maxed)
Yes, OP will get rid of AF issue which HD5xxx had (if he noticed it at all as it got partially fixed on driver levels).
Yes, 750Ti can do PhysX, but at what performance impact?

I had to miss something what made you to give 750Ti as good advice. OP is your HD5850 about to die or dead already?

well after several failings with the 760 I'm now looking at the r9 series. Specifically at the moment I'm looking at the sapphire r9 270. Would that be worthy upgrade?

Hell ive seen the 750ti match and sometimes beat my old gtx 580, thats impressive as hell considering the card requires no power adapters and runs off the pcie e supplied power- you know what i mean. But isnt it true the 750ti does Not support sli? That was kinda a dumb move on Nvidias part if you ask me, why not support sli? What do they have to loose?

It would of been interesting to see what 2 of them can do in Sli, also wonder if they can add sli with a driver update if they wanted to? The 5850 is also a decent card I had 6870 which is basicly a 5870 and a 6970 my Gtx 580 was faster then all of them, at least in the games I play.So a 750ti being able to tie and sometimes surpass a 580 is impressive as hell to say the least!Thats an entery level card basicly.

Would of been cool if they released 760ti,770ti as well.Anyone know what "Ti" stands for anyway? Tits included?

I want one of those dual-card gpus like the Gtx 590,690,Radeon 6990,7990....Ive never owned a card like that before, Ive thought about picking up the Asus mars 3 i think its called? Gtx 760x2.The performance may not be that great but its just cool owning such a bad-ass card! Hopefully I will own one soon? Saw a few evga gtx 590s on ebay going for around 200 bucks.
