It is worth the upgrade but if you can push your buck a little further than you can get a 760.

single 760 will see you through bf4, probably struggle with tomb raider more.
watch dogs I imagine would be sketchy but doable on a 4gb with compromises but not in texture dept. at least.
I never bothered when I was single card on a x8 borked mobo lane.

I would recommend a R9 280 that performs better, have more vram and cost less but this is nvidia section, right SLI?

As long as its okay with SLI :D

Yes a 750ti would be a decent upgrade, but if you can, it will be more worth it in the long run to get a better card, especially when you do decide to upgrade the rest of your aging system.

Thanks fellas. I should have clarified further I suppose. I recently upgraded my whole system with a modest build with the intentions of a new gaming rig next spring.

I got a good deal on the 750ti, but wasnt sure what kind of boost I would see over the 5850. I know its not a leap, and I could certainly stretch further...but I wanted a bump without getting in too deep seeing as I will do a more serious gaming build in the foreseable future.

I can understand where you're coming from, but in the long run it's a lot cheaper to simply buy the gpu you want the first time unless the case can't accommodate the card. I've leapfrogged before, upgrading every time, and it's just a big waste of money in the long run.

Then go for it the 750ti is still a solid card and should last you a good while.

Less than a 770 and it's garbage for a serious gamer at 1080p who can't stand xbox or ps3 graphics and aliasing. Just my 2 cents.

The 750Ti is about as fast as a GTX 480 in games, which isn't that much faster than a 5850. So no, it really wouldn't be worth it unless your 5850 is near death or running really hot.

    If you still have a e8400 I wouldn't get anything more than a 750ti.

    Huh?

750ti is $130, 280 is $215. Did you bother to research before you spat out that bs? lol

750ti has a ton of OC potential, 40% more performance is quite achievable on air.

Compared to 760 that SLI recommended.......

@OP: not worth the upgrade. Stretch further.

This is true, but it's fighting tiny memory bandwidth right out of the gate. So some games don't get the same level of boost. At least from what I saw. I haven't seen any benches of what they can really achieve. I played with one in person for a bit and its default boost was 1320Mhz, which was pretty insane.

A ref review here at guru3d had hit 1372 boost on stock.

These cards scale well after bios unlock + extra volts, 1.25ish, and 7ghz memory.

i would get either GTX 760 or 770. no less than that. though 750ti is cool too, it can be oced like Agent A01 said a lot, i've seen people ocing it by at least 30%.
