Very odd that these are coming back, i would have figured we was moving on from this old technology onto much faster methods such as PCIe, m.2 nvme, SSD etc.

In my next build i don't even plan on buying a traditional hard drive, but maybe there is still a market out there for these things. i mostly remember the velociraptors (think thats what they were called) having a habit of breaking down quite fast due to the very fast RPM and the needle often breaking. but maybe they have fixed that?

Yeah, I remember having one of those, didn't last very long.

It would be nice if SSD prices fell quite a bit so you could get a 2TB drive for around €200. Then there would be almost no reason for a consumer to get a traditional HDD anymore.

There no SSDs in most mainstream PC or notepcs. All using HDD.

Sadly, HDD are not leaving any soon.

Ohh man.. I wish I still had mine.. it died after about 2 years, I think it was from being bumped though when taking it to a lan party.

I'd normally agree however these have very low amounts of storage space, 900GB max space. specially when you can get HDD's at 10TB right now for that. just seems odd to me, but guess some people might enjoy it :D

Well you must have won the lottery haha, that is impressive i must say. i just know from others experience they often failed on them.

My Velociraptor going strong nearly 5 years day and night.
I still haven't jumped on the ssd bandwagon. I will, but haven't had a major need for it and until they a reasonably priced at 2TB i can wait. Going to buy another 4GB storage drive this weekend in fact.

HDDs will be around for a long long time. I'll get an SSD my next build later this year o early next but i'll still have a few HDDS in my system.

And actually, knocks on wood... i haven't had a single HDD fail me in 20 years, in fact i have a 10 year old Samsung HD in my pc right now from way back in like 2008, from my core 2 duo build. Sata3GB even, and that thing did run 24/7 for about 6 years and still does sometimes now.

My windows response is so much faster on an SSD.
If you dont run a fully loaded OS maybe you wont care.
But there is no way I'm going back to a spinner for my OS.

Some games load 2 or 3 times faster from an SSD (Although NVME drives dont appear to help further).
But still, gaming immersion and annoyance factor is improved with an SSD.

1tb isnt even under 200$ for SSD yet. I want new drive for my data drive, and I want to be atlest 1 tb and would love SSD drive but hell no not at the prices they still are.

I can get 1TB drive for 39-59$ or 1 TB SSD for 200$+, I rather get the HDD

dont be me wrong SSD is best damn upgrade I ever made for PC and I have my OS on it, but on hindsight the entry prices was not worth it... I payed 175$ for 120gb. I might never install and OS on HDD again cause the SSD but that price
