The UK Government can tell Google "how they will do business" specifically relating to their UK arm or regarding any business that is conducted in the UK.

Google is merely a company who's headquarters is over the Atlantic, they are registered all over the world and have offices everywhere.

It's not a case of telling Google how to run their company as a whole, just how they do business in the UK. If they don't abide by law, then they don't do business. That doesn't affect the company as a whole.

Also as you know, the American constitution has no legal standing in the UK. It is null and void.

So anyone that opts out, comes on a possible "danger" list? They "might" be(come) child molestors. Watching porn is such a felony. :bang::banana:

Atm any sick ****o could have access to this stuff but by the government making you "opt in" i guess your then put on a list of people who requested to "opt in".

All it does is single a large portion of people out that can be monitored. If your watching normal porn and nothing else then there is nothing to worry about.

Saying all that though Cameron is a **** and i bet he has other plans once the foundation is laid down.

Proxies/VPN/TOR will get around any filters, just look at TPB and how ineffective the filters are

and Cameron cannot be trusted no Tory MP can, next it'll be the NHS being bundled off and sold, they are already trying with Royal Mail

I despair at my country. Why must I be affected because other people can't properly look after and protect their children.

    CaMORON is a tit!

If i remember correctly, they already apply such filter on child porn already. Remember the incident regarding wiki banned for UK due to 1 'problematic' album cover?

This is a terrible idea and it's a slippery slope. People who want to look at illegal porn will still do so, so this only affects people looking at legal porn which should never be censored. It's not the governments job to protect children from looking at porn, it's their parents job. I can imagine this causing a lot of problems for people, how will a husband explain turning off the filter to his wife? How will the male room mate explain turning off the filter to his female room mates? It's going to be awkward for everyone involved, especially if you have to opt out by phone.

We basically have to sign our names to a "perverts list" and hope it never gets leaked. There's nothing wrong with masturbating but that doesn't mean you want your family to know you're doing it.

Funny thing is there's plenty of software out there that has filters, I'm using Kaspersky which has a built in parental filter hell even my router has parental controls.
It all boils down to the fact most parents can't be bothered and expect the government to do everything, hence why the benefits system is such a joke

But you're right people that look at illegal content will continue to do so

Teenage boys (and girls) will always find a way to view sex, Its natural and all this will do is push them to use stuff like darknet, freenet, tor ect

and trust me the stuff they will find there will have parents begging the government to unblock your regular porntube sites because at least their content is regulated and law abiding.

This all makes me laugh really, Camoron is trying to portray himself as the moral parent for the country.

I NEVER LEFT MY 8 YEAR OLD ALONE IN A PUB. DAVE!!!!!!!

Also there is a huge campaign to ban the Sun page 3, Cameron was asked point blank yesterday on national radio if he would support the ban he said and i Quote:

" That is for the consumers to decide "

Hey Dave, Im a consumer, i pay for my internet through my ISP and phone company, how about giving me the same curteosy on whether i want my porn turned off. I live alone, maybe you should have a look at the census records first and then ask the ISP where their are children registered.

We all know that there will be a list of everyone who wants to opt in, it will happen automatically, who is to say that a year down the line and you show up on a CRB check because you opt in to porn.

It wont become a law, it will have to have the majority vote in the commons and the Lords before it can be ratified and by the time it goes through, the general election will be in full swing.

I bet there are tons of Brits out there who finally are beginning to realize how stupid it was to impose on themselves the ban on firearms. A people will always be free as long as the government fears them.

Things may not be much better here in the US... but at least if push came to shove, we have the ability to resist tyranny.

That's the problem though, right here and right now he is basically threatening the ISPs and Google with the course of action of making it law. He is basically telling them that YOU have to do this and you have to do this NOW and if you don't then I will push through measures to make it law and then you will have no choice.

Hopefully the ISPs and the likes of Google will stand their ground. At the moment the government is making threats and it's obvious that they are hoping that the ISPs will cave, that way Cameron never has to make it law, it never goes to a vote, it just gets done.

This is were we as the consumers have the power, if your ISP is one of the ones that caves then change service and go to another ISP that hasn't caved, and TELL your former ISP that the reason you are leaving is because they have no back bone.

    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/broadband/383176/smaller-isps-refuse-camerons-calls-for-porn-filters

When the bigger ISPs start loosing customers to smaller ISPs who are rightfully standing their ground, remember this is not a law it is an out an out threat, what happens then? Do they try and push through the law and risk loosing, do they stand by and hope the big ISPs will stick with the threat even though their is no law to back it up.

This isn't just a big pile of sh*t in basic censorship terms it's a big sh*t stick in terms of the government abusing it's position to enforce something that isn't even a law and may never be a law.
