NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 reference gets tested [Guru3D.com]

Damn, thats a cheap 7970, the cheapest i can get it over here is 340 and thats pounds or about 390 euros

 

What I can tell you for sure without any bias is to wait for about a week or two and see how the prices settle down.
Then you can decide what has got the best bang for buck in your opinion .

Just for info: It seems the chips are exactly the same as the 680. I've seen on many sites that OCed the 770 they couldn't get them over 1250ish GPU but the Mem seems to go up to 4000. Also I guess a 680 OC'ed to 1300 would draw less power than a 770@1300 due to it's board limitations. Dunno this is IMO a pretty bad card. The 780 would've been the bomb for a launch price of 499 and 770 for 350.

 

Completely underwhelmed at the performance being a 680 owner, but a nice price though

 

I'm not that impressed with the results of the new 700 series. They don't really offer that much of a leap in performance vs my 680 at 1080P. But that was to be expected since it's just a refresh. I'm gonna hold on to my 680 until the 800 series launch.

 

I will probably get flamed for this but here it goes. I would not touch a XFX custom card with a 10ft pole they are garbage how that company is still in business after stoping their double lifetime warranty I have no idea.

I have to agree even though I'm on 670's this really isn't that much of an increase for me but my memory can do 7300.

 

Well, I dont think Nvidia had 680 owners in mind as potential upgraders, but for those still on 570s, 580s, great cards.

 

I agree. If I had a 580 right now, I'd definitly buy a 780 since the performance gap is worth the money imo. That's the reason why I always tend to skip a generation.

 

Of course it isn't, if you wanted 680s, you would have bought 680s instead of 670s, but the 670s were cheaper, and night on as fast as the 680s.

Well no, it wouldn't even be an upgrade, they already own 770's, have done for over a year now, so why would they get shot of them all now, only to buy them back again.

 

i imagine this is the conversation nvidia had over the phone to its vendors.
vendor1: nvidia we need a new graphics card our sales are growing stagnant.
nvidia: well we don't have anything new.
vendor2: how about you rebrand the 600 series and change a few things to make it just slightly faster so it can generate buzz for your cards again.
nvidia: why didn't we think of this earlier! we will delay the new cards again and release the 700! genius!

It's not like this is new, the 8000 and 9000 series were the same thing. The 9800 and 8800 GT were absolutely identical, just the name differed. The difference here is that IIRC this has been a much larger time span, or will be by the time Maxwell is released.

when 480 went to 580 i sold my 480 for the exact same as what i paid for my 580. My 580 to 680 did the same thing.
However in this case the margin of increase is even lower than before and no significant addition of ram.
This may be the worst re-branding nvidia has done yet.

 

Interesting, good cards and wortht he upgrade from a 400 or maybe a 500 series.

There will be no chance i would go through the pain of selling my 670's just to buy 770's.

see how the 800's go. but even then there probably isnt going to be any games for about 2 years that will cripple my cards.

So is it worth upgrading to a 770 from a 670? I am eligible through the eVGA step up and can upgrade to one but i dont see the reason to upgrade when performance wise is about ~%10 overall

 

I am upgrading just for the sake of doing it, I sold my GTX 670 for 350$ 2-3 weeks ago. If I keep it for another year I will probably have to sell it for $280 since the GTX 770 would be the newest out there. So it comes down to the same if you ask me. Just better upgrade if the price worths it. For the GTX 770 it does IMO. For a GTX 780 it doesnt lol

 

Im still eligible for the eVGA step up warranty which means i will pay the difference of $20+ shipping for the card if i upgrade.

 

Which is exactly why I'm sitting still till Maxwell, may even wait for it's inevitable refresh. It will be similar to how long I waited between my 9800 GTX+ to my ill fated AMD experience with my 6950's. If those had not been a monumental disaster when it came to drivers I would probably never gotten the 670's and would be seriously looking at 780's right now.

BTW I think the worst rebrand thy ever did was the 8800GTX to the 9800 GTX+ iirc that was the same card to the T.

What's your max overclock? I know both of my 670's by them selves can hit 1306/7300 with the BIOS mod the top card can actually hit 1333/7500 by it's self. If your cards are anywhere near my cards in OC overhead I would say no.

 

8800gtx was g80. I had 2 of them. I think you mean the 8800gts 512. There were many g92 spinoffs

 

Not that much to be honest. I haveng OC them to the max yet because ive been a little busy. So far ive only OCed the memory by 250 Mhz and it seems that it is working no problem. Ill be looking into it further. I have the eVGA FTW edition as well i think that one is slightly OCed as well.

The 8800GTs was actually a g92 core and it was on par i think with the 9800GTX on quite a bit of benchmarks. Loved the card.
