    Hey everyone,

So i haven't really built a PC in quite awhile and im not sure as to what sort of tech i need to be looking at amd/intel etc. the budget is £500 flat but the main things im looking for are at least 16gb ram and a good processor/motherboard combo. The rig will mainly be used for rendering 3d/modelling etc but i don't mind going for a lower end graphics card to get a better CPU/motherboard combo. (that's even if i can afford a decent graphics card with that budget).

The budget is purely for the tower and components. If anyone of you have any build suggestions I would really appreciate the advice on what sorta builds i can make with that budget.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Choose a cheap and decent quality case like the cooler master elite series, no need to spend much money in the case.

A robust power suply, cut the extras like modular cable, you´ll need the money for the cpu. Something like the corsair cx600.

For the goodies, a decent z77 motherboard like the asrock z77 pro3 with a i7 3770k and 16gb of ram.

For the rest, see whats left of the budget.

Don't get slow RAM, especially NOT 1333 RAM. Get DDR3-1600 RAM as a minimum, but preferably DDR3-2133.

He has 500 pounds and you guys recommend expensive RAM and an i7? Given your recommendations he would almost spend 400 pounds on RAM and CPU alone.

    yep, I can't see how someone can recommend a 3770k for a £500 rig.

Agreed with the above. I'd probably look into an 8320 or i5 and 16 gigs of half decent RAM depending on what the software used benefits from most. An 8320 + 16 gigs should only come to about £200-240 with a little shopping around. The price for an i5 and memory shouldn't be much different. That leaves a healthy budget the rest of the tower. This is of course assuming he has a Windows license and peripherals.

I wasn't suggesting expensive RAM, I was just suggesting at least DDR3-1600. Absolutely pointless getting DDR3-1333 RAM now considering it's the same price as 1600. 2133 RAM is about $10 more than 1333/1600 for 8GB.

    ASRock 970 Pro3 €63,90
    Corsair Vengeance 16 GB DDR3-1866 Kit €114,90
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition €117,90
    OCZ CoreXStream 500W €42,99
    Sharkoon Vaya €29,99
    DVD-reWriter €16,99
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 2TB €84,90

    Total: €581,47 = £491,34

It's not much (especially the graphics card, and an SSD cache would improve it as well), but I think it's a good build for under £500.

ram's cheap. it was the 3770k suggested by someone else that made no sense at his budget

wow thanks for all the suggestions everyone. trying to play around with i5 builds but that AMD build by Omni**** looks really good to. I have windows and everything else. the budget would be for the tower.

dont really have a preference for case etc just something that will provide the best cooling ventilation etc for the budget.

    With that budget

    AMD FX 6300 ~$135
    Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 ~$140
Radeon HD 7790 or GTX 650Ti BOOST ~$150-170
    8GB 1866mhz ram ~$60-70
    1 - 2TB drive ~$80-90
    SeaSonic S12II 520W ~$65
    Antec P280 ~110
    DVD burner (any) ~$20

    about $780 = £515

I don't think that the SSD and extra ram will make a difference. The mobo i recommended costs more but i expect it to have better power handling for either overclocking or a later cpu upgrade. The case is a bit on the expensive side for this build, but i think that it is worth it (just my suggestion). The 6300 cost is just a bit more but it is significantly faster in game.

I like the looks of this system, but replace the hard drive with an SSD. Trust me, SSD's do make a difference! Since you're on a limited budget, you can find a more affordable SSD around 120GB and use it for your OS and software for quick launch. Also, I'd def go with a 650 Ti Boost over the 7790. It performs about on par with a Radeon 7850, which is pretty surprising.

<- OCZ Agility 4, but thank you for the personal attack none the less.

SSD's are nice but they don't make a significant difference in game.

    personal attack? lol ok

SSD makes the biggest all around difference for a pc, easily the most noticeable upgrade you can do to a pc. btw agility 4s arent good, should have gotten something else

Knox, he doesn't use his pc mainly for gaming, he uses it for rendering and modelling. Those kind of things DO benefit from an SSD. However, there are 2 points I'd like to make:
    1) an SSD is just way too expensive for his build. It would be a welcome addition, but even the cheapest for a cache or OS drive would cost around £50. And in the rig I proposed, there's little that can (or should) be reduced. Xenonz: if you can get a few of these components 2nd hand, you could get yourself an SSD. I'd recommend a Samsumg 830/840 (not pro, those are way too expensive), a Crucial M4, or an Intel 520. For the 840 and 520 you'll probably need to look 2nd hand as well because those are also somewhat pricey new.
    2) USA prices for components are far lower than EU prices for components. The build proposed by Knox would likely cost him over £700, which unfortunately is way above his budget.

I got you now omni, i'm not sure how much of a price difference there will be.

Going with a cheaper 2GB card and the extra memory would be better, i would imagine for a modeling/rendering setup.

In the us 6300's and 6100's are only a few dollars apart and the difference is worth every penny. In game and all around.

The quote above would do pretty well, the only thing missing is the case, that would probably set you back another £50.

It's slightly over budget, but I think it's well worth it because the 2 extra cores (or extra "module") would do you good especially with new games going forward. Normally people upgrade their GPUs before they consider upgrading their CPUs, that's why I usually quote with a stronger CPU and let the person upgrade the GPU in the future. The extra two cores will do wonder for rendering, that's for sure. Some rendering applications use GPGPU, so having a decent graphics card is also rather important.

Most people don't really need anything more than the AMD 970 chipset for their motherboard unless they need CrossFire, but most people on a budget would rather just change the GPU completely than having a multi-GPU set up.

deltatux's build looks excellent apart from the PSU, the Cooler Master GX is OK but not worth that much. Antec Neo Eco 520C is better and £10 less expensive.

It would be great if you could fit in a small SSD for the OS and programs. Maybe if you downgrade the CPU to FX-6300 (£107) and get an Asrock 970 Extreme3 (£67) from amazon? Should total about £440, maybe low enough to add a Samsung 840 120GB (£76)
