The GTX 1080-Ti Thread

I tend to think it's the only chip with Nvidia's Pascal lineup that's really profiting from proper cooling, if any even do. Watercooling has proven to help little to nothing with overclocking, iirc (and please correct me if wrong) the Titan XP was the first Pascal card to actually be helped with watercooling (I think it was the Seahawk review) in terms of keeping their highest boost stable, and not fluctuating.

With the same GPU (GP102) and only laser cut blocks, I think the 1080Ti will too benefit from it, since the die is so large that it might be cooled easier at the center if you have an AIO or custom h2o loops. But I'm just thinking that way, I'm going to put it underwater anyway :bugeye:

 

I thought 1080 had trottle issues? or maybe it was with default fan curve?

I'll stick with water too for my next GPU.

 

Well it won't be any hotter then current 980TI and this isn't that hot - custom cooled (67-69C at factory 1420/3710), old 780gtx was hotter for me (up to 72-74C worst case at 1150mhz) but with weaker cooler, in both cases fan @ auto.

 

My old MSI 980Ti Gaming 6G always overed around thermal max (by driver) which was 80-83 degrees so for me it was a hot card. Seeing temps around 69-71 degrees with my current card is a blessing from above.

 

i have MSI 980Ti Gaming 6G as you can see in my sig and the only time temps approach 80C is if card is under 100% load under most demanding games, most of the time it's 60-70C. your current gpu runs cool because it's small cut chip and only 180W TDP. there is no magic to it. 1080Ti will once again run hotter.

 

I'm obviously talking about temps under load while gaming. And most games I play require 99% load anyway so...yea. I guess temps were lower when playing DOTA2 or CS:GO although I don't remember the details.

Yes, smaller chip, that's true. I guess I was stating obvious facts but I sometimes think about SLI (which I'll never go back to) and how that would work in my current setup. 980Ti SLI worked really bad just as reference.

 

Well imo msi tf coolers are meh, same for evga acx dunno why they got so much praise lately.

That said it all depends on cooling, zotac massive cooler does a great job.. never over 70c

 

Can't wait for this...Was Planning to upgrade to Titan XP SLI but will wait for 1080Ti SLI...

 

Though I must praise the current MSI TF cooler which is notably more quiet than ASUS Strix

From 1 to 10, how much reliable?

 

I see they mention 1080ti with 256bit gddr5x so idk.. that would look like crap on high-end.

 

Lol had a dream last night that a nVidia rep was selling 1080Ti's in a shopping maul in London (I dont even live there). The boxes were green, very flat and quite heavy but I bought one. Then I reminded myself that this is Founders Edition and that I didn't want that since I prefer 3rd party coolers

 

There will not be 1080 Ti. Why?
Because Nvidia is doing with Pascal the same they did with Kepler, so next-gen will be a rebranding like this:

2080 <- Partially disabled GP102
2070 <- 1080 (GP104)
2060 <- 1070 (GP104 <- GP106)

Then a few months later Nvidia will release the 2080 Ti with GP102 fully enabled.

 

You are so right in that what do you say...

(All) Nvidia products are circumcised only the flag-ships like the Titan X (Pascal) are fully activated and have the fully all memory placed (have no removed memory) on the card.

I hate Nvidia for it!

 

780ti was full chip also. I suspect that will happen with 2080ti too.

 

If that would be true, what is Nvidia gonna do to counter AMD Radeon RX 490?
Unless it is delayed big time. I don't see Nvidia bringing out a GTX2080 so soon.

 

I guess 2080 would be to counter RX 490. Or maybe 2080ti will be out at the same time or just little after 2080.
Well, I'm hoping for something new because I'm waiting for something worthy to upgrade two 980's I sold back in april. I would get Titan XP, but I don't have enough money to get custom water loop to cool this chip properly. 1300 Euros is too much.
Bought rx 480 so I can play games while waiting.

 

Considering there's going to be a Pascal refresh in Q2 next year I can't see the 1080 Ti coming out.

The performance gap between the Titan XP and 1080 isn't really that big and something half way between the 1080 and Titan XP would seem odd.

 

I think the next GPU will be named 1180 and not 2080.

 

I don't understand why they're saying 1080ti will be a toned down Titan X. I thought the 980ti was a toned down Titan X. An overclocked 980ti can beat out a stock Titan X....
