Just to be sure, I have the opportunity to buy a 6800GT AGP, and its gpu is nv40 revision a1. Does this means that I have 100% chance to unlock it to FX4000?

nvapps.xm_ is the main profile xml file
nvwsapps.xml is for Quadro cards it contains profiles for the programs used commonly on quadro cards

    Nvapss is the game profiles
nvwsaps is the quadro, 3D program profiles

    expand nvapps.xm_ to system32/nvapps.xml
    and nvwsapps.xm_ to system32/nvwsapps.xml

    Hello nforced4good,

the problem is that the 61.82 driver version
( the latest certified for cinema4d ) has only a Nvapss.xm file and an
nvwsaps.xm file could not be found.
i have tested it with 3 other driver version and they all have this nvwsaps.xm
file but the 61.82 version has it not.
maybe you can give me further informations.

    thank you

    ignore nvwsaps then

    you only really need nvapps.xml.

you don't need to select it, the profiles automatically activate when a game launchs.

just make sure cinema 4d is in there though, if not i'll look and see if any of my xml's have it

No.. nvapps.xml contains only games profiles.

    You NEED nvwsapps.xml.
Only nvwsapps.xml contain Cinema 4D and other professional profiles.

    EDIT:

In the old drivers, like 61.82, it was called nvwsapps.cfg, not nvwsapps.xml

    I am sorry, I forgot this...! :(
I will upload one for you to rapidshare.de..

    Here it is:

    http://rapidshare.de/files/32504862/nvwsapps_6182.zip.html

    Extract this to

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\

    Then restart your PC.

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    This nvwsapps.cfg is for 61.82.
If you later change to a newer driver, 8x.xx or 9x.xx
    they will need a nvwsapps.xml, not nvwsapps.cfg

    To make things clearer:

In the old drivers, like 61.82, Nvidia used .cfg files for their settings,
but the current drivers use .xml files for their settings files.

NvApps.xml / NvApps.cfg is for GeForce and Quadro, it contains Direct3D settings for games.
As soon as the game is started, the settings are applied automatically.

NvWsApps.xml / NvWsApps.cfg (Nvidia Workstation Appliactions) is for Quadro only,
it contains OpenGL settings for professional applications, e.g. Cinema4D.

    A Quadro-certified driver, found in..
    ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/Windows/Quadro_Certified/
    .. will contain both files.
But when installing, the driver will see what card you have.
If it is a GeForce, it will expand and copy only NvApps.xml / NvApps.cfg to system32 folder
If it is a Quadro, it will expand and copy both NvApps.xml / NvApps.cfg and NvWsApps.xml / NvWsApps.cfg to system32 folder

Since your card is still identified as a GeForce, it will expand and copy only NvApps.xml / NvApps.cfg to system32 folder.
To be able to select Cinema4D, you must manually expand and copy NvWsApps.xml / NvWsApps.cfg to system32 folder.

In contast the to games settings which are applied automatically,
you have to select the OpenGL setting - e.g. Cinema 4D - yourself.

You select it in the "Performance & Quality settings", in "Active profile:"
instead of "- Global driver settings" which you should select when doing a SPECviewperf test.

After you have expanded the NvWsApps.xm_ to NvWsApps.xml,
    - or NvWsApps.cf_ to NvWsApps.cfg (in the old sdrivers like 61.82)
    and moved NvWsApps.xml / NvWsApps.cfg to system32 folder,
    restart your PC.

Then you should see "Cinema 4D" among the settings in the "Active profile:" at "Performance & Quality settings".

Btw, I can not really understand why 61.82 which is 2 years old is the latest driver that is certified to work for Cinema 4D. I would have asked either Maxon support, or in a C4D user forum, if this is the driver everyone uses.
Maybe Maxon smlpy have forgot to update the list of certified drivers.

Or.. that they don't bother to do certifications.
In that case, the users in a C3D forum would be the right people to ask.

    AHA!

    I'm sorry!

In 61.82, the NvWsApps uses the old naming scheme, which is not .xml, but .cfg

So in 61.82 - there is a file called

    NvWsApps.cf_

And this you should expand to

    NvWsApps.cfg

    Code:
    C:\tmp>expand NvWsApps.cf_ NvWsApps.cfg
Microsoft (R) File Expansion Utility Version 5.1.2600.0
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1990-1999. All rights reserved.

    Expanding nvwsapps.cf_ to nvwsapps.cfg.
    nvwsapps.cf_: 2160 bytes expanded to 12068 bytes, 458% increase.
Then move nvwsapps.cfg to system32 folder.

    I think everything works now

    Hello clokkevi,

sorry that i didn´t reply that last days, but i had much work to do
and didn´t find time to modify my videocard.
but now i think everything is doing fine, i use the 91.63 driver version
( which is the latest certified driver for cinema4d ) and i am able to
install the nwsapps.xml file to choose to cinema4d profile.
and now i will run specviewperf to see which perfomance i get.

thanks for your help you are the best
