hi guys, my chip can go up to 5.0ghz but on this board it requires too much voltage(past the 1.45v). what z77 board u would suggest me to get in order to get max oc? i though about asus p8z77 v or sabertooth.
Not to sound like a joke. A lot of people had excellent luck with the ASUS P8Z77-I (mini itx) boards for 5ghz.
You want a board with more power phases than the LE boards have. I could be wrong but I recall reading somewhere about the ASUS P8Z77-I mini having plenty of power phases.
That does sound like a lot of vcore as most 2700k chips can do 5ghz around 1.4 vcore some even less depending on the chip (we all know that every chip is different and some require more vcore than others to achieve the same clocks)As you can see in my specs i own the Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe which has a 22 Phase Power Design 16 -phase for CPU, 4 -phase for iGPU and 2 phases for DRAM and i can achieve a 5ghz oc with hyper threading enabled at 1.385v , not that it is necessary to have 16 phases for your cpu,a minimum of 8 phases for the cpu is enough for such an overclock a lot of top end motherboards come with 8 phases and are great overclockers. Both of the boards you listed the asus p8z77 v or sabertooth have 8 phases for the cpu and are overall great overclockers. If you want my advise out of the 2 boards you listed i would go for the Asus SABERTOOTH Z77 as it is made of very high quality components for overclocking plus you get a five year warranty opposed to 3 years for all other boards... EDIT: By the way i just saw the specs of your current motherboard and only has 4 phases which is quite low.
They are both good boards. But the sabertooth is built with better quality components that's why they give a 5 year warranty. But it is really up to you just take i look at the asus site and compare them both in terms of what features they come with and what suits you better but you can't go wrong with either. You can also look at some reviews of the above boards on youtube if you like..
asrock z77 extreme 9 or 11 (if got money) or the EVGA z77 FTW (the best)... asus Z77 serie is nice but not for max OC2 under normal cooling (air or water) if you chose asus chose ROG serie, sabertooth despite good is more budget...
