A lot of them do. Smokers in general see it as their 'right' to smoke. Smoking should be banned completely, but that will never happen as long as the cigarette companies have the power that they do. You should also factor in the environmental cost of smoking.

I think I remember reading that their chronic illnesses tend to be shorter lived than others and so cost less. Not sure if that's apocryphal though. Checking a few websites looks like anecdotally people from the tobacco industry as well as the Revenue are saying tax income is roughly double the cost of treatment to the NHS. If everyone stopped smoking the so called hole in Public sector finances would be bigger and the NHS much worse off. Needs a good look to be sure though. My first serious girlfriend was a smoker and I hated it.

Well, looking for that kind of data from people of the tobacco industry and/or government is like getting data on piracy from MPAA/RIAA. As I said, I don't mind people smoking as long as they smoke reasonably and responsibly. I mean, cars can kill too, but when one's driving responsibly then no one would even bother. I don't really care if smokers killing themselves with smoking, just don't drag along everyone else who doesn't.

Nasty habit that isn't attractive at all.. Yeah I've smoked a bit when I was younger (not that long ago)..I used to think girls that smoked were hot and made out with one that was a casual smoker..she was clean though..but as they say "if she smoke she pokes"..not going to go any further with that
