There's not that many cases that can match up to the cooling of the Antec 900 or 1200. You could always buy thumb screws for the back.

I think I read the issue was more than just the back, but inside as well. Dunno if they were minor issue or major things.

Ok here are some more updated specs after talking to my computer store guy again.

He can get a a packaged deal with EVGA for the motherboard and PSU. I know there is skepticism on packaged deals, but I will get more specs on these as soon as he gets them.

The PSU will be 750 watt $165
    EVGA MoBo / SLI / 6.0 channel sound / 10/100/1000 ethernet $210
    4 GB of ram 800/1600 SFB $160
    Pioneer DVD+RW $40
    Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 Ghz E8400 $210
Western Digital 500 GB 7200 rpm SATA $100
    Antec Twelve Hundred Case $150

Total is $1035...... not including the video card.

What are your thoughts on these proposed specs and pricing?
Once again I am open to suggestions on both the Ati and Nvidia cards. I figure the $200 - $300 range is about all I can afford. Don't need TOP of the line.

I was looking at this card, what are your thoughts on this?

    EVGA Nvidia GTX 260

Those 2 links are for the same card right?

Get the HD 4870 imo. It's slightly faster than the GTX 260, and has DX10.1.

I see that there are a lot of people recommending the ATI HD 4870. I've never used an ATI card before. How's the quality of them? I've always known that some people prefer ATI, and others prefer Nvidia. Personal preference I guess.

BTW, I just bought the Antec Twelve Hundred case today from Microcenter for $150 plus $12 tax. My first step in the long road of building a new pc !

Does anyone know the reason why these 2 cards are the same price? $299.99 And is this a good price?

EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Video Card - Superclocked Edition, 896MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 x16, FREE Special Edition EVGA Precision Overclocking Utility, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV

Is there much of a difference between the 2 ?

Circuit City is selling the same superclocked card for $409.99

    Why the $100 difference?

I'm goign with the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 chipset.

Do I need a heatsink attached to this thing or no?

    "Intel Slashes Desktop Processor's Price
    Victor Wu - 21 Jul 2008 @ 11:53
Intel has slashed the desktop processor's price by as much as 31% on certain products. The new price for the Q6600 is $193 (down from $224), for E8500 is $183 (down from $266), for E8400 is $163 (down from $183), and for E7200 is $113 (down from $133).

Looks like Intel is planning to get ready for the Nehalem's release, as previous rumor has reported that the cheapest Nehalem would be as low as $284. The new prices also make Q6600 even more attractive for those wishes to upgrade to the quad core processor."

I just read that Intel has dropped the price of many chips, including the E8400, E8500, and Q6600

What are the difference between all those chips? I was planning on getting the E8400 I think.

I had some issues trying to get the proper Vid-card myself so besides asking all over I went and looked at benchmarks.

What came out of it is:

7 out of 10 times the the HD 4870 is sitting right between the 280 and 260 and in some cases scores better then both of them.

This is in Dutch however I guess you can look at the statistics.

So is a Q6600 better, worse, or equal to the E8400 ?

And what is the difference between the E8400 and the E8500 ?

The Q6600 is good but can't be OC'd as high as the E8400. The difference between the E8400 and E8500 is that the E8500 has a x9.5 multiplier.

So if the E8500 is now the same price as the E8400 was last week, I should go with the E8500 right? Or should I still go with the E8400 and just put the extra cash into getting a 850 W PSU instead of a 750 W PSU ?

So I've made a few decisions, but I still have lots of questions.

I bought the Antec Twelve Hundred case for $168
    http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0288150

I am leaning towards the Antec True Power Quattro 850W PSU $151.72
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...c3grabb3r-_-Power+Supplies-_-Antec-_-17371009

But now my other questions begin.
Lots of people are telling me that the ASUS motherboards are the best in the business. But I am not sure which processor to go with, thus I need help with the MOBO and ram stuff.

The E8400 is available for $179.99
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037

The E8500 is available for $199.99
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036

The Q6600 is available for $199.99
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017

If the E8400 and the E8500 are the same, just the E8500 being a bit faster for $20 more, than I can eliminate the E8400 from my rig.

So basically it would be a choice between the E8500 and the Q6600.

Which of those chipsets would be the best for gaming, movies, etc...
Which then leads me to the mobo and ram, of which I am still a complete noob on.

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/cpu-scaling-in-games-with-quad-core-processors/11

"2,4,8,16 cores ... right now it seems that after 2 cores it does not seem to matter that much how many cores you have in your PC when it comes to gaming. Our recent Intel Skultrail review (8 logical CPU cores) proved that already. The biggest bang for your buck is a faster Core 2 Duo dual-core processors preferably with a higher clock frequency. Next in line are the cheaper quad-core processors. But after four cores guys, I tell you, with the pending Intel Nehalem release going 6, 8 and maybe even more cores, we are bound to run into an issue. More transistors means more costly products. What really needs to go up is that processors frequency."

If this is the case, then I would be better off with purchasing the Intel E8500 over the Intel Q6600 correct?

Ok, a couple of people here have contacted me and have convinced me to go with the Intel E8500 chipset. Thanx a bunch guys!

So now I have 3 components picked out.

    Antec 1200 case
    Antec 850W Quattro
    Intel E8500

Now to worry about the MOBO and ram !!
