Since I started using my computer again (after not using it for 3-4 years) when I turned it off and would try turning it on the blue light on the motherboard would light up but the computer would not start (or make noise/no fans movement or anything). I would have to turn the switch off in the back and turn it back on. Then press power. Well after coming back from Dinner with the wife today my computer did not start after the normal switch and power. So when I press power, motherboard lights up, nothing else happens. Is this the PSU failing or the motherboard? I took everything out. And made sure all the plugs were in tightly..
You are correct. I just did the PSU test (Connecting green pin to black pin via hair clip) and the PSU started just fine. The thing is alot more silent when it's not connected to anything, lol >< How come the PSU powers up via that method. But when connected to the motherboard, it doesn't?
my mates pc had same probs, was faulty psu it sometimes booted normally, but mostly just didnt make a sound
Thanks Bokah. I found a cheap PSU that is modular. http://rosewill.com/products/s_1535/productDetail.htm Is 800W good enough, or should I stick to 850+? I plan to get a 470 gtx.
Motherboards have a safety feature, if they detect a problem, they cut off / dont start to prevent any damage Double check everything on the board is seated correctly, cards, RAM, etc
I bought the 800w modular power supply for 55 dollars. I couldn't pass up the great deal. But I wanted a modular power supply anyways so I am happy. I think tonight, or tomorrow (Or monday if the wifey doesn't want me spending a lot of time on it while she is home) I will take the case apart, motherboard and all and clean everything then put it back together. If it works great and if not. Well I will wait till next week for the PSU and hope it works then. I have a laptop that has a 17 inch monitor and 8800m gtx in sli on it. I might sell that to complete this computer.
Friend of mine had the same issue.. Turns out he forgot to plug in the 4pin 12v connector to the motherboard
I completely took the computer apart. Cleaned everything. Brought up the manual for my motherboard (680i LT) and followed it step by step. What I got was a far cleaner Motherboard. Same exact thing happens though. Blue light lights up when the power supply is in. Orange light lights up when I press power but nothing else. Hopefully the new PSU will fix it. Expected to be here between the 3rd and 5th :/
If it doesn't work, it just means I will be replacing the motherboard. And that's cool with me. I wanted a modular PSU for awhile now anyways.
