Just re seated my corsair h70 cooler and cleaned the cpu and cooler then applied some pc world thermal paste. To my horror the cooler runs far too hot now. I have now ordered the exact paster that corsair use on the cooler and Im hoping it will then run the same as before. My question is does the thermal paste quality really make that much difference? I really hope so or I am doing something very wrong.
It sounds like you have a bad mount now, thermal paste quality normally only makes a few c difference at most.
Make sure the mount braket is not hitting a capacitor around cpu area and make sure you plugged the pump and fans in.
Which pasting method did you use? With the spread the paste around method, my CPU would overheat and reach to dangerous levels on the H70, I've hit 100C on stress before. However if I do the straight line method, it doesn't get hotter than 75C on stress. deltatux
Thermal paste can make quite a difference that why the cheap stuff is cheap and expensive stuff is expensive! If you've mounted the unit back precisely as it was before then it may have been damaged when you disturbed the unit.
Ok, it's sorted. It was indeed the paste! Have applied the corsair recommended paste and it has solved all problems, can't believe it made that much difference! It's running about 3c cooler than it was it the first place so I'm well happy.
nice one... I have a question, I planning on getting the Coolermaster Seidon 240M, is there a chance I will face the same problem if I used other thermal paste rather than Coolermaster recommended one...?
Well, I think it all depends, as long as you use the correct material, for mine it was ceramic based and the the one I had used was metal based so just check what they recommend and you should be fine.
