^Nah it's only AM2+ (AM3 "ready") Vishera would kill it anyway. I had the same board but in Nforce flavour. Now it's dead. Has 4+1 phase vrm's with no cooling, running my 955 @4.3 fried them. .....not even any timing options in the BIOS. Not ASUS's best effort. Yep. Might just need some fine tuning, 4Ghz is not an unreasonable target.. Or you could pick up a 1090T like TK suggested.
Thanks for the tips.... I'm trying that later... I need a better than stock cooler to start going mad with this Phenon... Great it's BE, so I can manage to push it some more without messing with FSB speeds!
I don't think it'll be a big difference between my X4 and a X6 Phenon, will it? Is it worth it? My Mobo only goes up to the 1090T Phenon X6. edit: Sorry I'm being too lazy to multi-quote...
depends if your stuck on 3.6ghz, get an aftermarket cooler for that cpu and you should go higher that 3.6
Thanks guys... I'll see if I can get a 1090T for a reasonable price... If not, I'll make a bigger upgrade later this year, towards a 4ghz+ octa-core... The thing is I believe most games still uses 4 threads, and only a handful really passes that amount. So, it would be money spent for nothing (almost).
Hmm just thinking maybe it would be worth getting a Thurban for BF4 since mantle would make the performance increase even bigger than typical right? How's BF4 run now with the X4?
It's floating around 45-105fps, everything on ULTRA, on stereoscopic 3D @1080p except no AA (I lose the 3D effect with AA), and on Direct3D (Tridef doesn't use Mantle). With Mantle, it runs @ 54-120fps with the same config, but no stereo 3D, but I found my hard disk having more accesses, and some small stuttering, specially visible on closed areas... I'm now playing the tank level, with lots of particles, wind, etc... Just for reference, my 560Ti can't handle this level properly even with everything at "medium" on 3D. Normal 2d it's ok on med/high.
I've just found a 1090T for a good price, I'll try to get it... Don't know if it'll help much, but, I'm sure it won't hurt, since it has the same core speed.
I would buy a good hs fan and see what you can do with your current cpu first. Either way you need to get rid of the stock cpu cooler first.
I've got a CoolerMaster turbine, and I'll mount everything together when the new CPU arrives. I'll tell you guys if there's much of a difference! Thanks for all advice!
CPU is installed and running! I'll play some games and see if there are any improvements later today!
Oh man!! It took long for me to answer because I was playing Skyrim overnight! Well, it's a new computer... I didn't expect it to improve so much, but everything from web browsing, windows using and, of course gaming is much better. I didn't know that the Phenon X6 has a "turbo" mode, much like my Radeon, so it manages to go to 3.6Ghz from the 3.2 stock mode when I'm playing a game that uses up to 4 cores (almost every game), and newer games, like battlefield use all six of them, running at least 10 fps faster every time... And I didn't even start trying overclock yet!! Got a brand new CoolerMaster and will try to reach 4ghz with this baby!! It's dead cold 27ºC on idle and never passes 33ºC on heavy load!! The cooler itself is much newer than the CPU and it's intended for the 4+Ghz AM3+ octa-core CPUs! This cheap upgrade will make this mobo/cpu/mem combo last for at least another year for me, when I'll be looking forward for a 12+ core, 5Ghz+ AMD thing to replace it... The Radeon will stay for a good time as well, since it's still bottlenecked by the rest of the system (but much less with the new CPU). Anyway, thanks for all advice guys, my PC is running very smoothly with this config!
