Hi, my old Acer Aspire 5552-5898 is slowly dying on me and so I will need to buy a new laptop soon. I am a university student and finals week is approaching fast, but I know only basic knowledge about computers. I'd like to buy something that is good quality - something that will last me for the next 3+ years, light (ultrabook perhaps?) but good on performance (light video gaming, good processor, graphics card etc). My last concern is price. I'm willing to spend up to $800 or so but if I can find anything cheaper I would prefer that. Can anyone help me find something good? I've been reading two articles but I'm not quite sure http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2400007,00.asp http://www.techradar.com/us/news/mo...abook-18-top-thin-and-lights-for-2012-1054355 Two that I'm considering are Samsung Series 5 NP530U4C-A01US 14-Inch Ultrabook Lenovo U310 13.3-Inch Ultrabook
Curious why is it going to death on ya ? Maybe you should just insert a windows 7 or 8 disk and do a fresh install
At the budget, you can check these models for a gaming laptop http://gaminglaptophome.com/best-gaming-laptop-under-800-dollars/
Out of the models above, you can consider lenovo Y580, a litter higher than the budget, but I think it's better. I'm not a fan of Lenovo , but I did get one myself, and I'm happy with it.
Just bought myself an Asus A45V-VX026H model for less than $500 (not sure if it's available wherever you are, just launched here a few weeks ago) which sports a Geforce GT 645M (despite what the online sites say, but remember that the GT 640M, 645M and 650M are essentially the same cards with different clocks), an i5 and a 14" screen. And I can tell you that I was pleasantly surprised with the gaming performance. At either 1280x720 or 1366x768, you'll be able to get away with maximum settings on almost every game. And the GT 640M series are well-known for their overclocking potential; you'll be able to overclock a GT640M to GT 650M stock clocks easily
---> www.notebookcheck.net It has a huge database on all kinds of models and they are quite pickey with the defects
