    Same.

At work though I see pretty much every brand fail all over the place...

Really starting to think HDD's in pre-built systems are lesser quality batches then those bought seperately in retail :3eyes:

You people are scaring me sayin' Seagate drives crash. Nearly all my drives aside from my SSD are from Seagate, I'm still using all my old ones in my PC for storage.

    2 x 640GB
    1 x 1TB
    2 x 2TB
    1 x 4TB

consider yourself lucky.. they do have a rather high failure rate.. other than that they are ok drives.

Just like all electronic goods, anything can fail

Fact is under the hood most these drives whether it be seagate or western digitial, they use same parts that come from different manufacturers like the spindle motors. Theirs supply chain an you guessed it, they basically buy from same guys cause it's cheapest option.

6TB of porn or Kate Upton stuff... :)

seagate is not so failling now... they have made progress.

the only thing is that they are noisy, imagine a raid of 6 disk doing noise like an scooter engine in your server...

Seagate noisy? i can't hear mine. WD ones on the other hand.., i've had 3 caviar blacks (500gb,1tb and 2 tb) and all rumbled like hell. Followed by a 1tb maxtor and then by a 1tb samsung f3(which i could barely hear).

Don't know about the WD Green/Blue/Red ones though. Never owned any.

Seagate bought maxtor out few yrs back, while im here...i have to say in 15 yrs ive had 3 Seagate hdrives, a 250gb a 500gb and my current 1.5tb drive and ive not had 1 fail on me, but saying that ive also owned wd and maxtor without failures, been using my 1.5tb now for nearly 4 yrs with no sign of failure so i guess you guys are really unlucky.

On topic...i think 6tb from any manufacturer is risky..thats a lot of films to lose in one go.

I have 2x 3TB Seagate HDDs and they both FAILED on me
Even the refurbished replacement failed on me.. lost money shipping drives to them.. garbage quality from Seagate.

Never had Seagates fail on me, I have had WD and Maxtor drive Fail though. Seagate is not a bad as people on the forums like to make it out to be.

I've had HD's of different brands, none have failed on me. One was starting to click, though, and it was an older Seagate.

How about a 3TB 2.5" portable HDD? It seems no progress has been made since 2012.

At this rate, I wonder if SSDs will overtake the smaller HDDs in capacity not too far in the future?

Maybe in 7/10 years that will happing but even now 1tb is very expensive at $600. When it come to consumer data recovery on SSD is it a real pain in the butt not reliability and can be difficult and very expensive data recovery if you have it sent in so you see the traditional hard drives, backup tape drives and CD/DVD/Bu-ray disc drives will still have there places for a long time to come.
